ParticipantCute Swan Princess stuff ! Not meaningful as a predictive or sign of intent on the part of the writers, but some creative fans sure do find a way to match things up!
I’ve been thinking about it a bit since having seen the Swan Princess comparison screencaps yesterday, and honestly, I’ve started to wonder if maybe they are actually pulling a little bit of stuff from that story as they write Emma’s story.
I know that Emma Swan is her own original character, she’s not intended to be a character from a story we already know. Swan Princess is one Disney movie they won’t do on this show, simply because they already have a Princess named Swan, so there’s no way they could have another Swan Princess as well.
It’s far from being an exact copy, but there are some similar story elements. In the movie, Odette and Derek are betrothed as a means to unite kingdoms. In the show Emma and Neal are fated, which leads to Henry, which essentially leads to a kingdom being restored when everyone remembered who they were.
In the movie, Odette and Derek are planning to marry, until he says he only loves her for her beauty and she leaves, not believing he truly loves her (which he actually does) and she ends up kidnapped and held prisoner. In the show, Emma and Neal are planning Tallahassee, until he leaves and she believes he doesn’t truly love her (which he actually does) and she ends up being held prisoner.
Odette becomes the victim of a curse that causes her to change form between woman and swan by the moonlight. Emma’s whole crappy lot in life is because of a curse.
After they reunite, Odette’s supposed to go to a ball with Derek where he’ll proclaim his love for her in front of everyone and break her curse. The big bad who put the curse on her in the first place, locks her up and sends someone disguised as her instead. Derek declares his love for the imposter instead, which causes Odette to die. If the guy telling the world he’s in love with an imposter is making you think of Neal being enagaged to Tamara, well, in the Swan Lake ballet, which this movie was based on, the role of that imposter is portrayed as the Black Swan.
Getting back to the movie (which I haven’t actually seen, I’m just getting these plot points from wikipedia, how ever did we survive before wikipedia) Derek seems to be several years older than Odette. In the show, Neal is several years older than Emma. And then there’s that whole bit with Derek giving Odette the pendant with a swan on it, which, blatant much? Judging by some screencaps I saw, I gather that swan pendant is seen again when they’re adults too.
Anyway, basically, I’m not saying that they’re actually copying the storyline of the movie/ballet in such a way as to make Emma = Odette and Neal = Derek, I’m just saying that if they’re not actually gonna do The Swan Princess, maybe they’re pulling a couple of things out of that story to apply them to Emma’s story, just because she is actually a Princess named Swan, so how could they resist.

ParticipantThis WickedHatter theory intrigues me. Would it work with the t-word though? How many years pre-Curse do we think Grace was born? As in, was she already born when Jefferson went to Oz for Rumple? And did that crystal ball belong to the WW like we’ve all assumed? Jefferson seemed to still mourn the loss of Grace’s mother, so I dunno that I could see him going to Oz and just stealing something from her and then leaving again like it was just a job. But if Grace wasn’t yet born when Jefferson did that job, and if WW is Grace’s mother, she had to have her after that point in the t-word. But if WW was already in Oz by then, why was Grace perfectly at home in FTL? I just twisted my brain into several knots, so am not sure what’s going on and if I wanna stick with this theory or let it go.
I know it’s mostly just been said as a joke, but it could be fun if they did a Princess and the Frog thing. Maybe it backfired, and instead of the frog becoming a Prince, the kiss turned WW green.
Also love the green apple idea though. It seems like it’d be an impossible opportunity to pass up, to give Regina a green apple to use against someone. Going back to t-word questions, that would mean that WW became green after Jefferson’s trip to Oz, because at that point in time, Regina didn’t have much in the way of powers, and wasn’t even in the frame of mind where she wanted to go around hurting anyone and everyone. Unless the green apple was a beginner spell gone wrong? But I got the impression that Regina had known Jefferson and his wife when they were together and had Grace.
Urgh, headache.
Looking at Mario Van Peebles’ directing credits, I see he did an ep of LOST, just one single ep in all 6 seasons of the show, so I went to refresh myself on what happened in that ep on the off chance that maybe it’d have a similar sort of theme to the Once ep they thought to get him in to direct. Dr Linus. There’s some parent/child thematic stuff with Ben and Alex. On the Island, Ilana makes Ben dig his own grave because he’d killed Jacob, who was like a father to her, and Ben ends up referencing how he sacrificed his (adopted) daughter Alex’s life and watched her die because he chose Jacob and the Island over her life. And in the flash sideways, Ben’s a teacher who is tutoring Alex and tries using underhanded methods to help her get into college and advance his own career in the process, (she ends up getting the college reference letter, but he doesn’t end up getting the promotion). There’s also some stuff about people trying to kill themselves and not being able to because the Island won’t let them. (Trying to sum up a whole ep of LOST in a couple of sentences is hard. LOL) And there’s one of those “BOOM surprise it’s Charles Widmore” moments, so now I have a mighty need for there to be an unexpected King George cameo in this ep.

ParticipantYep! I can’t even begin to describe how much a true man of honor Neal has become. He’s made plenty of mistakes (though self-sacrifically), but at least Neal owns up to his mistakes, doesn’t burry them under the sand, and apologizes for them! He’s not self-deluded into thinking Emma owes him anything; he’s simply trying to make things right by being a comforting protector for Henry and by extension, Emma. He’s doing his upmost to be there, but still letting Emma come to him. He’s not making demands of her.
All of THIS!
Also, I want to say how much empathy I have for whoever wrote this confession. Shame on people like Hook who really bully and mock people who have disabilities in real life. What’s just as wrong is to try to justify the notion that bullying and jeering at someone is somehow acceptable. Hook is self-deluded if he really thinks he’s man of honor. People of real integrity don’t pretend like they never make mistakes, don’t refuse to apologize for wrong doing or hypocritically point out other people’s shortcomings when guilty of the same offense, only worse. I’m not saying people can’t really change, but the first path to redemption is to start by confessing one’s sins. Just look at Rumple and Regina who both self-identify as villain. Yes, they’ve antagonized innocent people, but at least they admit it! By contrast, Hook doesn’t even acknowledge his errors!
Also all of THAT! I enjoy me some Hook, but his actions in that scene with Rumple are quite simply indefensible.

ParticipantMost of the reaction I’ve seen from CSers is that it would be too soon for a CS wedding. I have seen one or two posts on tumblr from people who still think it’s possible, but the majority seem to not be considering it. I think Keck is a bit of a CS shipper and has talked them up before, so that’d be why they were even mentioned in the article. Would be nice if professional media writers could keep their personal bias out of it, but it is what it is. *sigh* Emma shouldn’t be considered an option at all for the wedding. There are 10 eps before the finale, and Emma’s currently single. She ain’t marrying anyone by season’s end.

ParticipantNow that Meghan Ory has wrapped the first season of CBS’s Intelligence, she may be back as Little Red this spring.
For what it’s worth, for those interested, Meghan’s new show Intelligence pretty much bombed in its second episode (1.1, 6.10 million, a 56% drop from pilot) so it could be that A and E can ask her back for more than one episode.
Ah, I’d been wondering how it’d go this week, (they moved it to a different timeslot after the premiere didn’t they?), and that’s not exactly a great result. :-/ Hope they’d have a way to work her back into OUAT on a regular basis if Intelligence doesn’t end up being renewed.

ParticipantSo why spoil something from the season finale….?
Because everyone loves a TV wedding and they wanna keep people watching through the rest of the season. So they start pimping it now, get people speculating, give it an official media mention in a couple of articles between now and season’s end and it keeps viewers on the hook the whole way through.
I know a lot of people think that Emma will get married in the series finale paralleling Snowing in the pilot.
Yep, would bookend the whole show nicely. And again, it’d also be sensible from a marketing standpoint if they do it at the very end of the show. If they have her marry her TL with a season or more left, members of the ships who lost out wouldn’t want to watch that marriage play out, (fans who ship Emma with any given person tend to be rather devoted to their OTP) and they could risk losing viewers. Better business move to have her get married in the last episode ever.

Participant“They were definitely kindred spirits. There was a reason that she was so drawn to him and him to her. They had to survive to make life OK. There’s an interesting parallel for them that they both are on their own in this world and have had to find inventive ways to make life OK.” – Jennifer Morrison
