Still very confused about Hook on that horse. Is he in two places at once? Does he find someone to get out of NYC and go in search of everyone else?

I don’t think so. He’s not wearing the red vest in the NYC stuff, so I think they have him wearing it in the FTL stuff as a way to distinguish that this is a different-time-and-place Hook to the one in NYC. All the other characters look vastly different to their real world counterparts, and they needed a point of difference in Hook’s costume as well. But his costume is so static, there isn’t really much they can do to change it up, apart from the vest, (and the fact that he has the hook in FTL, and the fake hand in NYC).

Also, do we have confirmation about the crest on the horse? Is it King George’s?

This is the only thing that really resembles a “crest” but it may just be a random, decorative thing?

I hadn’t really noticed the hair, but it does look like maybe they’ve greyed it up a bit? Could also just be the light though? Maybe it’s got a crazy amount of product in it, and it’s glowing in the sun? 😆

I don’t think he and Hook escaped NL together though, I think Bae left first, so I guess it’d still fit in the headcanon I’ve got going on if he left a lot earlier than Hook, and has been aging in FTL for some time, and so now looks older than Hook, who only arrived back in FTL much more recently.

312 is the first episode of the new half which will begin in March

And I know it’s gonna be worth the wait, but OMG that wait will be agony!

Seeing MRJ in the FTL costume is awesome!! 😀 It looks like the fringe around his cape might be blue, which I hope it is, because that’s totally matchy with the blue scarves we’ve seen him wear both as a child and an adult.

Oh for sure, there’d have to have been some change in how exactly Bae got out of NL, because like you say, that was controlled by Pan. As far as we know, Bae hitched a ride on the Shadow to get outta there, but we also know that the Shadow started out as a separate entity from Pan, and we don’t know exactly how connected it was to Pan around the time when Bae left. Maybe the Shadow still had enough independence that it rebelled against Pan, and helped Bae get out of NL in an alternate way/time?

What you suggest about Rumple having sacrificed himself to Pan, in order for Bae to be saved, is a totally plausible option as well.

The more I think about this AU thing and the potential it could have for a Neal centric ep, the more interesting I find it. People who don’t like Neal hold it against him that he didn’t try to stay with Emma, and still get her to break the Curse somehow. People who do like Neal say that there was really no way that he could have stayed and still had the Curse broken. He left her to fulfill her destiny, so that fate could take its course. If he’d tried to defy fate by staying, then “terrible things” (Adam’s words) would have happened. As much as I’d love to see an AU that shows what exactly those “terrible things” would have been, I think that a similar message could be conveyed if we see him defy fate in how/when he got out of NL, and they show the affect it would have had. Moral of the story would still be the same: when Nealfire defies fate, things don’t work out like they were supposed to.

If Bae’s escape from NL was different, and in turn changed events in a way that he and Hook are there in FTL as adults before Emma’s even been born, then neither side of the triangle can be happy with that. CSers wouldn’t like Bae for having forced the change that meant that Emma wasn’t around to get with Hook. They could say, “He was wrong to have interfered with fate.” Yet those same people currently say, “He was wrong to have resigned himself and Emma to fate.” Can’t have it both ways.

So I guess on a certain level, this particular AU concept appeals to me as someone who wishes that people who hold certain things against Neal would be able to be more open minded about the situation he found himself in and the choice he made, and there could be potential for that to happen with this particular AU chain of events. That wasn’t my motivation for starting to think about this whole AU possibility, but the more I think about it, (and frankly I’ve thought about it way too much :-P), it’s where I’ve ended up at the moment.

Anyway, as of right now we really know nothing about what direction they’re going in. Any and all theories right now are based on a frillion guesses and assumptions, and the actual show could go in any direction. All I know for sure is that it’s gonna kill me to wait until March to figure out what’s actually going on.

I still think that if Bae had come home after living in NL for a long time, he would have come home (and not by random chance) at a time when Rumple and Belle were already living together because Rumple would still be in the process of trying to get the Dark Curse set up.

Depends how old Nealfire is in these FTL scenes, but he was 14 in NL, and has to be at least mid-20s in these scenes, if not older. That means he’s been back in FTL for at least 10 years. So you’d have to subtract at least 10 years off Belle’s current age to get the age she was when she got with Rumple, if Rumbelle were together already when 14 year old Bae came back from NL.

*goes to sit in Rumbelle corner and glare*

*cookie*? You know I love me some Rumbelle as well, so even though this AU theory seems rather diabolical of me, I’m just saying, it could be one explanation. And it wouldn’t be a permanent thing, it wouldn’t even really be REAL. Rumbelle would still be alive and together in real world present day. If anything, how much you hate the idea makes me think even more that it might be something they’d do, because they’d want to solicit that, “MENOLIKEY” reaction to the AU, because in turn, it makes actual present day look much more appealing.

However if this alternate universe is based on that decision that would mean that he would still have been 14 or 16 when he came back. Timeline wise it wouldn’t make since for him to be an adult before Emma is even born. We don’t know when he came back to our world exactly but we know it had to be after Emma was born because he had aged to maybe about 25 by the time they met and Emma was 17 or 18. This puts about 7 to 10 years between their ages, not 17 or 18 years. So whether he escaped from Neverland to return to FTL or our world no matter where he decided to go he still would have arrived in either world after her birth.

In the actual storyline we have, Hook left NL to go back to FTL before Bae left NL to come to our world. In the AU I’m imagining, Bae left NL first, went back to FTL, aged to adulthood, and that’s when Hook left NL and came back to FTL. And that’s how they’re the ages they are in the scenes we’ve seen being shot.

Hook still came back to FTL on his same t-word, not that long before the Curse date, (though that Curse event doesn’t actually exist in the AU), it’s only Bae’s t-word that’s been tweaked, because he’s now leaving NL at a different time to what he did in the story we already know. And that would be fitting if this ep ends up being a Nealfire centric. It’s only his personal actions and t-word that changed, but that single event of him leaving NL at a different time for a different destination, affected the futures of other characters as well as his own future.

The idea that Rumple died could play into Bae and Hook actually hanging out together now. Maybe Hook came back to FTL still bent on revenge, but when he got there, he discovered that Rumple had already died, and so his revenge plot was a no go, and that allowed for him to repair his relationship with now adult Bae instead.

Yeeeeeeees sure. But with A and E and their notion of fate, I can’t seem them saying that the TL couples wouldn’t somehow end up together. That’s not how Fate works in ONCE. Snow and Charming, maybe pushed and pulled by Rumple, still would have been together cause that’s how TL work in our ONCEiverse.

But the AU changed the course of fate. Bae returning to FTL instead of coming to our world would have been a major glitch in the matrix, and it would have thrown off future events for himself and anyone closely involved with him. It’d be like, “YAY he made up with his Papa, even saved him from the Dark One curse,” but then, “Well CRAP, now mortal Rumple caught the plague and died. If only he hadn’t made up with Bae and had his curse broken. Why did Bae have to come back and mess up fate, dammit!” The message that, “You see, you don’t try to mess with fate,” would be in keeping with the show’s pro-fate message.

Also I cannot emphasis enough the ick factor that would drive both the internet fan culture and non internet fan culture nuts. Espeically on a show that is promoted as family friendly.

My ship bias is gonna show here, but some AU ick may be necessary if they’re gonna push forward with SF in present day. If the AU solicits a reaction of, “OMG EWWWW NO, NEALFIRE ISN’T SUPPOSED TO BE WITH BELLE WHILE SNOW’S PREGNANT WITH EMMA, TAKE ME BACK TO THE REAL WORLD RIGHT NOW AND PASS THE BRAIN BLEACH PLZ,” then it’s sorta emphasising that SF is the situation that’s SUPPOSED to exist. *re-hangs dreamcatcher*
