ParticipantWhen it comes to them using their powers together, I think it’s a balance thing. Dark and light, two halves make a whole, and the whole is naturally more powerful than either of them could be on their own.
I’m interested whether there’ll be any adverse affect on Emma because she’s been learning from Regina, and using her method of summoning anger. When Rumple was coaching Emma in putting up the barrier spell around his shop last season, he told her to tap into the love, and to think of the people she wanted to protect. He recognised that Emma’s magic comes from a different place than Regina’s (and Cora’s, and his own). But Regina doesn’t know how to do it any other way, so will being coached by the dark side to use dark methods ultimately tarnish or corrupt Emma in any way? Or is her magic so powerfully positive that it really won’t matter in the long run?

ParticipantSo I was doing my rewatch last night and I have a question. The Blue Fairy, after the dwareves hacked open a rock said, “fairy dust runs through the whole town, you just need to open a vein.”
Um since when?? If Fairy runs throughout and all you need to do is open a vein then why did it take so many episode to find diamonds in S2? Why couldn’t Blue just have them open a pocket? Continuity or Sneaky Fairy?
“It runs through the walls. We just need to open up a vein and that’ll carry the magic through town.” I just took it to mean that diamonds run through the walls of the mines, which make up a significant area under the town, so once they’d exposed a patch to get the magic in, it’d spread.
She did look very…concerned when everyone was discussing what had to be done though. Wonder what was really running through her mind.

ParticipantNeal treated Emma like a person, Hook treated her as a prize to be won.
That’s a nice, concise way to sum it up, yep. Always good to get the opinion of a swinging voter who doesn’t have a set bias for either ship.

ParticipantWhether she knows milah is neal’s mom is an open issue. I doubt they’ll get into that, especially since rumple would not want to exposé how he murdered milah to anyone esp Neal. Very bad form on rumple’s part.
I hope they do get into it, because trying to woo Emma without her knowing the full truth of who he is is bad form on Hook’s part. If he does honestly intend to win Emma’s heart without any “trickery” then she should know who he is, otherwise she’s not falling for his true self. The fact that Neal’s mother left him to be with Hook, and more importantly the fact that Hook handed Neal over to Pan as a boy are both things that Emma should know if she’s ultimately able to make an informed decision about who she wants to be with. If CS got together without her knowing, it’s not like that truth wouldn’t come out at some point in their lives, (even if she didn’t get back with Neal, and got with Hook instead, Neal would still be in both of their lives, because he’d be in Henry’s life, so Hook and Neal would need to air out and resolve their relationship, so Emma would find out all the gory details of their history at some point), and if he’s kept it from her, she’d be justifiably pissed, just like Snow was pissed at Charming for having kept things from her.
As for Rumple not wanting to reveal that he killed Milah, if he senses there’s something going on between Hook and Emma, I believe he’d have no qualms about revealing all to everyone. Rumple lost the woman he loved to Hook, and if he saw that there was a chance that the exact same thing could happen to his son, I believe that Rumple would reveal any and all things that could bring Hook’s character into question, with no regard for his own. He already believes that Neal believes him to be a lost cause, so revealing having killed his mother wouldn’t risk losing any good favour with his son, because he thinks there’s none left to lose. And if revealing that information might make Emma think twice about choosing Hook, then that would be a positive in Rumple’s eyes.

ParticipantI think Wendy mentioning Bae should’ve alerted Henry that something wasn’t right. How would Wendy know he was Bae’s son unless someone told her?
Excellent point. I was listening to the AfterBuzz podcast for this ep just before, and one of them said they were gonna go back to re-listen to what Wendy said to Henry, in case there was some secret message hidden in there. Pan told her that mentioning his father was a nice touch, so it’s not something he’d told her to say, and now that you mention it, I do think she was probably trying to make Henry wonder what’s up.

ParticipantDidn’t realise JoAnna Garcia was Aussie?
She’s not, but Ariel comes from down under the sea. 😉
HEADS UP PEOPLE: New Zealand is not part of Australia. It’s not just Down Under but Down Under And Over There.
OMG on a couple podcasts after Quite A Common Fairy, people said that Tink had an Aussie accent, and as an Aussie I was all, “OH NO YOU DIDN’T!” I love NZ, but please, they don’t sound like us! 😛

Participantwhen was it stated that hook carries milah’s sword? I missed that.
It wasn’t stated, but it’s the same sword.
Navy sword…

Rumple taking his Navy sword…

Milah’s sword…

Wearing Milah’s sword right after she died…

Rumple taking Milah’s sword…

I wonder if that scene where Rumple’s taking it will be when we finally get them to talk about the whole thing so we can clear up once and for all that Emma will know that Hook’s Milah = Neal’s mother. It doesn’t appear to be a scene where there’s any action happening, so why is Rumple picking up any sword, let alone that one?
Rumple: Ah, I remember this blade. The last time I saw it, my Milah was wearing it.
Emma: Your Milah? Wait up….whaaa?
Rumple: Oh did he neglect to tell you, dearie? He took my wife. Neal’s mother.
Hook: And you killed her.
Emma: O______O
Neal: FMLPhee
ParticipantAs someone who has always enjoyed Hook as a character in his own right, I’m kinda torn over how he’s acting right now, and was just pondering something I’ve seen mentioned on tumblr a couple times recently…he has an obsessive personality, and has he just replaced the Milah obsession with the Emma obsession.
Even back in his Navy days, he obsessively behaved a certain way, only back then it was a positive thing. Then he switched to being a pirate, and most fans noted that the switch was very sudden. Part of that suddenness was probably just down to time constraint of a TV show, but perhaps it was also supposed to showcase how quickly he can flip the switch and go from one obsession to another? He went from Navy man to pirate in about as much time as it took him to go from clinging to Milah to actively pursuing Emma.
If it is the case that Emma is his new obsession, then that would validate his current actions for me. I don’t praise his actions of course, but it would mean that they were writing him this way for an in character reason, and I need there to be a reason apart from them having him act like a juvenile for the sake of triangle drama, because if that’s their only reason then it bums me out that they’re wrecking a character who has so much potential.
So that’s how I’m gonna look at him for the moment. He’s still selfish, he’s still obsessive, because that’s how he’s been for so long, so he can’t learn to act differently in the blink of an eye, and now he’s latched onto Emma as his new, selfish obsession. I’ll hold out hope that Emma will show signs of appreciating that Neal is giving her her freedom to think and feel on her own, and that at some point Hook will notice that. Dare I say that it could be poetic if this kid who he wanted to be a father figure to, who he wanted to guide and teach, ends up being the one to teach HIM a lesson about how to be a better man.
And to end this post on a happier thought, did you all notice how in that shot in the promo for 308 where everyone is lined up, Neal and Emma are side by side in the middle? The 6 of them are lined up like: TinkerHook, SwanFire, Snowing. (Actually, speaking of TinkerHook, that switch flipping being obsessive about one thing at a time isn’t unlike her own personality.)

ParticipantI’d think that the threat on Wendy’s life would be enough to keep her brothers in line, but it does always pay to have a backup plan, so I could see those shadows being John and Michael’s.
I don’t think so. I think only magical people like PP and Rumple can survive having their shadows ripped. Greg Mendel, however, who was mortal, just died when his shadow was ripped.
Does intent matter though? If you’re just ripping someone’s shadow because you’re done with them but their shadow might come in handy, then it’s no biggie if the person dies. But if you want to take someone’s shadow to enslave the actual person, there could be a way to do that.
Or one of the shadows will be Rumple’s father.
Are we going to see Rumple’s father in the next episode?
We’re supposed to be, yes. Will know for sure once the press release for 308 comes out.

ParticipantIs it me or does Pan ascending mean Pan wants to be a god…
Well, in Greek mythology, Pan IS a god, and now they’re messing around with Pandora’s Box, also Greek mythology, and we’ve seen mention of Pegasus this season, also Greek mythology, so it would not surprise me in the least if the whole Greek god thing is what inspired Kitswitz with this storyline.
