He’s also likely going to feel an intense amount of guilt for inadvertently being the reason behind such mass destruction. So, maybe he’s just throwing his dad’s walking stick out of anger at his father for doing something so terrible when Neal didn’t even want to be found by his dad in the first place.

So true! He’s the guy who sacrifices himself for the sake of others. And his father sacrificed an entire world, because of him. That’s gonna stir up some emotions.

YES! THIS! Ok, I am willing to concede that the dress isn’t so bad. But she has no attitude, no oomph, and that really lets the whole thing down. You really have a vision Phee. I would consider a change of careers if you’re not already in this one 😉

Agreed RG. I showed them to my manager a while ago (who doesn’t watch Once) and she thought they were terribly photoshopped and that the background was awful, possibly even a replacement background! I then showed her Emma/Regina/Hook from last years photos and she said that: 1. Emma looks ridiculous compared to last years great pics 2. Regina looks like a drag queen 3. Hook looks like he’s about 50 years old (biologically)

Someone on tumblr actually showed the pics to people she works with who are professionals in this field, and she posted their comments.  Lemme see if I can find them again…

So I just showed the ABC OUAT promo shots to the artists at work – all professional newspaper artists who make our shiny pretty glossy magazine inserts look good. The one they were almost dry retching in horror over was the Regina shot.

Here’s the professionals’ response:

Artist 1 (Head artist who has won international awards): Holy *expletive*! They’ve clearly etched it out. They’ve done a horrible drop shadow as if it’s some cheap clip art.

Artist 2: Someone has no idea. Why’d you do that? WHY?!

Artist 3: Someone junior did this. They should be hung, drawn and quartered. How embarrassing. Tell me this didn’t get released in public?

Artist 4: I just ate lunch. *expletive*

All agreed NO professional media outlet would use this photo.

On Emma and Snow’s…

I had a request for further feedback from what the professional artists at work think about the other ABC promo pictures. Here is their reply:

EMMA PIC
Artist 1: Much better job (than the Regina photo). She’s a bit too angelic though which makes it freaky. I’d only run it if it had a quirky headline that made its oddness work.

Artist 2: She looks pretty pissed off. Is that intentional? If not, bloody hell.

Artist 3: Has she been kidnapped? She looks there against her will. The rout is better quality than the first pic.

Artist 4: Meh. Fake and sugary. Don’t like.

Artist 1: That’s really, really weird. Freaky. Offputting. No, I wouldn’t run that.

Artist 2: The background effects are unnecessary and crude and way too obvious. They highlight how Photoshopped the photo is. Instead of enhancing the pic, it detracts. Would not use this.

Artist 3: Just no. Too much is never a good thing. Not very professional although not nearly as bad as the first pic of the drop-shadow woman.

Artist 4: What a freak show. Still totally *expletive*.

Unfortunately, it seems there are some people out there who just hate the fact that she’s in the dress at all. They think it’s completely out of character”.

I’ll admit it, I hate the fact that she’s in THAT dress. Not that I would hate her in any dress. It indicates (for me) a pampered little Emma Charming and not the tough, independant woman we know who likes to dress for comfort and who has a penchant for leather. For me it’s just totally not in character. The colour is all wrong too IMO, in fact I think that it washes her out completely, ESPECIALLY with that awful background. She needs a strong colour, not pastels. It suited Snow White far better, especially with her dark hair.

And then there’s the expression on her face. For me she almost looks serene or something. Not that she’s going to kick butt in Neverland.

Also just to clarify, i don’t blame the cast at all for their icky pictures! It’s totally the ABC promo departments fault. I love how Colin was able to laugh at his photo by retweeting his rock star alter ego!

I get that it’s totally different to how we’ve ever seen Emma before, so it threw some people off because she just looked wrong. I really think it could have been much more successful if the photo was styled completely differently. If they had her with a darker background, the whole look would have probably popped more, instead of making her look washed out. JMo wore a similar shade of purple to CC, and she looked gorgeous in it, so it’s not just the colour of the dress that makes her look bad. They should have given her pose some actual personality. Take this pic from Ginny’s batch last season…

Imagine Emma, in the same pose, same fed up expression, but her hair’s a mess, maybe even a twig or two stuck in it, bottom of the dress dirtied up, sitting on the ground in the jungle, with a pair of princess heels with one of the heels broken. That would have been a fun mirror of last year’s Snow pics, and would have still incorporated Emma’s personality into it. There are just so many better ways they could have used Emma in that dress, which makes the pic we got even more disappointing. Another idea, which I suppose would have cost more, they could have redesigned the dress. Taken off the skirt and turned it into a pair of pants, kept the bodice as a separate corset top. Emma’s still effectively wearing her mother’s princess dress, she’s just turned it into her own style, to illustrate that even though she’s coming to terms with being a fairytale princess, that doesn’t mean it’s gonna change who she is.
