    Souls are mermaid food.

    Those poor, unfortunate souls. šŸ˜‰

I could totally see Prince Eric being a prince more like the original James. I definitely see Ariel getting burned by her love for him and Eric not being around very long (one episode tops).

This is what I’m leaning towards as well. I’ve always felt that if Eric is alive in present day, Ariel will end up with him. But it’s far more interesting if she loved and lost him.

Yes! That’s another reason why I think it could be cool if there are Oz connections to THO. Perhaps they were helping PP as a means to an end of their own. Like, sure, they helped PP get Henry, but along the way, THO also got PP’s help to hunt down and destroy some magic in this world. So let’s say the Wizard is the one running THO, and then even after PP is taken care of, he can still pose a threat, which will carry through to the next adventure for our heroes.

Here are screencaps of the whirpool Ursula makes with the trident, (it’s just a regular whirlpool in the movie, but it does look portal-ish)…

If Rumple went to NL and got both the trident and the ink from Ariel’s father, what on earth does Triton get in exchange? That’s a lot to fork over, especially his scepter which is incredibly powerful. And why would Rumple need the trident if he got everything he needed from NL in the first round? And if it can open portals, why wouldn’t he use it to come to our world?

Don’t have an answer to the question of why Triton would hand it over. But if it’s a device that opens portals, Rumple probably wanted to take it home to try it out to see if it could open a portal to the land without magic. Which I’m guessing it couldn’t, so he just kept it as a trophy in his castle instead.

Did Regina send her back to NL, then? Because we know Ariel is currently in NL with our JR6. And what did Regina get in return? The exchange and t-word issues are a little complicated.

Regina doesn’t necessarily require anything in return, that’s Rumple’s method of operation. If Regina got an excuse to go see Rumple and rub Belle’s “death” in his face, that was probably enough for her to be willing to help. But yes, my current thinking is that Regina helped her get back to NL.

1)Before Regina became the evil Queen, Rumple went to NL and got squid ink (and maybe the Dark Curse) from Ariel (we think). In exchange Ariel got….something. Wouldn’t it be ironic if Rumple gave Ariel her voice?

I dunno that Ariel’s ever dealt with Rumple. I think he probably dealt with her parents directly though, at the very least her father.

    2) Years later, Ariel messes around with the Trident, open a portal to FTL, and gets stuck with her Trident.

I’m thinking she used her father’s trident to open a portal from the NL side, through to FTL, and she would have been able to get back, if not for Rumple taking the trident from Triton before she came back. If Rumple used the trident to open his own, fresh portal to get back to FTL, that closed off Ariel’s way home to NL.

    3) Ariel encounters Regina and they strike a bargain. Ariel will give Regina the Trident if Regina sends her home (I find this problematic as Regina doesn’t appear to be able to travel without some sort of aid, like the hat.) BUT Regina goes to Rumple to get the means to send Ariel back and promises Rumple the trident. But of course Regina doesn’t do anything without expecting something in return. So what does Regina get from Rumple? (this is also problematic as the Trident is already in his castle when Regina comes to him at the end of Skin Deep but I’m just thinking out loud here)

Rumple already had the trident when Regina went to see him about a mermaid. He got the trident all on his own at some point. If Regina had Jefferson’s hat by that time, (not sure if she did or not, t-word wise), she could use that to help Ariel get home. But Regina couldn’t transform Ariel into a human, so that’s the thing she went to Rumple for help with.

Didn’t the sea witch steal the mermaid’s voice in a way similar to how Rumple stole Keith’s tongue? Perhaps Rumple took the squid/Ursula’s powers when he took the magic ink so that he could take voices too.

Yes, in Anderson’s original, the sea witch actually cuts out the mermaid’s tongue. From the moment we saw Rumple take a tongue, I’ve figured it had to be connected somehow, (my current thinking is that he told Regina he’d give her a potion to give to the mermaid to make her human, but as payment, he wanted the mermaid’s voice, so he taught Regina how to take a tongue). Just hadn’t noticed until now that the smoke that went along with it was black like a cloud of ink.

Over in the chat just before, a random thing popped into my head, wondering if perhaps when Rumple was in NL, (probably looking for the Curse, which I think originated there), that’s when he got Triton’s trident because maybe it could be used to open portals, and he needed a portal to get out of NL.

Then RG mentioned how in the movie, Ursula uses the trident to create something that looks portal-y with the swirling.

I’ve wondered before if merfolk could travel between worlds without a portal, and maybe one day Ariel was off exploring and got stuck in FTL. Now I’m wondering if maybe she’d used daddy’s trident to open herself a little portal to explore FTL, and before she could get back, Rumple got the trident, and that’s how she got stuck, and was in FTL to go see Regina?

One other little thing, I re-watched Lacey the other day, and noticed that the smoke when Rumple took Sheriff/Keith’s tongue was black both times, like a cloud of ink. Off the top of my head, I don’t think any other magic has had black smoke? So perhaps he couldn’t do that trick until after he had the squid ink?

Which is why I haven’t given up on my crack theory that Grandma is Dorothy just yet, because if they maybe wanna lead into Oz for S4, and they’re dealing with THO in the 2nd half of S3, having Oz folks involved in THO would provide for a nice, natural progression.

Is OUATIW going to be more than one season?

They’ve said that if it gets a S2, it’ll be a whole new adventure with the same characters, and S1 will have a definite conclusion. I’m assuming the aim of S1 will be reuniting Alice and Cyrus.

So I think what you’re saying is that there is already a war going on between TeamRed (led by the RQ and Jafar as King and Queen) against the TeamWhite (led by Sultan but no Queen). Alice and Cyrus simply get caught up in it?

Well, I haven’t really thought about how far the conflict might go back, I’m just thinking within the context of the contained story they could tell in S1.

From what we’ve seen, it seems that RQ wanted Alice and Cyrus broken up for some reason. I’m assuming that reason is she wanted Cyrus for herself. Perhaps she’d tried in the past and he’d shunned her, using the excuse that he was a Genie and had a duty to perform in life and that prevented him from falling in love with anyone. Then he went and fell in love with Alice, and RQ was all, “Nuh uh, honey, I saw him first.”

With a Genie involved in the story, that instantly ties in the Agrabah gang, both Jasmine’s family, and Jafar. Aladdin and Jasmine were buddies with a Genie, even if not Cyrus in particular, maybe Genies are brothers in the sense that Dwarves are, so if Cyrus was in trouble, Aladdin and Jasmine get involved with trying to help out the brother of their friend. And Jafar hates Aladdin and Jasmine, so of course he’s on the opposing side. So that sets up the major players on each side for the game that’s gonna play out in present day, as they try to save Cyrus.

I think Robin Hood might help Belle find a way to communicate with Rumple in NL. RH is indebted to her for convincing Rumple to spare his life. Another possibility is that Robin Hood will help Belle figure out how to cast the cloaking spell using the fairy wand from Rumple’s shop. RH has experience using the wand from when he used it to save Marian and his unborn child. I just don’t want Belle to become another victim of another hostage situation.

OK, fair point, the girl doesn’t need to be locked up again, but I still have my money on Robin saving her from some perilous situation. She saved his life, (technically twice, though he doesn’t know about the bit where Rumple was gonna shoot him), so the gesture for him to re-pay that debt has to be on par. Dunno that I can see him helping her contact Rumple though, because he’s not exactly Rumple’s biggest fan, due to the torture.

I’m not sure the HO is ā€œan old storylineā€ since months pass for us, but for the characters there’s many questions to be answered about how GOAT came to be, and how they were getting support in the real world, along with the questions of how Henry came to SB, how Neal got out of NL. We come up with so many theories sometimes our curiosity may be satisfied but we could be really off base even on things we are really sure about.

Yeah, there’s still plenty of storyline left in THO. I was re-watching SSTTR last night, and during the scene where Greg was torturing Regina, she was mocking him for thinking that he and Tamara could achieve their goal, and he was all, “Who said there’s just two of us? We’re everywhere.” Then he told her how after he left SB as a kid, everyone thought he was crazy when he talked about magic, but then there were people who listened to him, people who believed in magic, and believed it didn’t belong in this world and were gonna get rid of it. And Regina was all, “You can’t eradicate the magic from this world, ” and Greg was all, “Damn straight we can, you think this is the first time we’ve done it?” THO has knowledge, power, history, plenty of other minions just like GOAT, and an interest in SB. They will most definitely be a factor in S3.

Remember the casting call for Captain Hook said at least a 4-episode arc, and now Colin is signed up as a S3 full-time cast member (as is MRJ). :) It’ll all depend on the fan reaction to Robin Hood that will determine whether he sticks around as a real contender for Regina’s hand.

Yep, they’ve got a certain amount of storyline for him 100% locked in, more storyline for him in mind, but they have to wait and see before it becomes official. I think that’s why Keck ended up needing to tweet a retraction of his comments hinting at RegalHood. They wanted some info about Robin out there, they wanted some info about Regina’s future romance out there, so they could gauge reaction and see what people were saying about both issues independent of each other. But an article all but confirming that RegalHood is the plan was a step too far at this stage in the game.
