ParticipantTrue. We don’t know yet how prominent her role will be. I’m assuming that she’ll be more than a 1 shot appearance though, based on the fact that she got the same style of CC promo that Hook originally got, and also on the fact that they dropped the first mermaid hint in the middle of season 1, which suggests they’ve had a story in mind for her from the start. That sorta setup suggests a recurring role IMO.
As for RH, K&H have said that new characters this season will be introduced in a similar way to RH, where he was a supporting character in a main character’s story. But we now know that they’re giving him at least 4 more eps of story. I’d expect a similar situation to happen with Ariel.

ParticipantFor some reason for which I have no evidence or explanation, alchemy puts me in mind of Merlin.
Did you ever see the BBC show Merlin? I never watched it religiously, but caught eps here and there. In the show, Merlin’s mentor is Gaius, who knows about magic-y stuff, but his actual job is as a physician. It’s all a bit alchemy-ish.
Alchemy is an influential philosophical tradition whose practitioners have, from antiquity, claimed it to be the precursor to profound powers. The defining objectives of alchemy are varied; these include the creation of the fabled philosopher’s stone, the ability to transform base metals into the noble metals, gold or silver; and the elixir of life, which confers youth and longevity. Western alchemy is recognized as a protoscience that contributed to the development of modern chemistry and medicine. Alchemists developed a framework of theory, terminology, experimental process and basic laboratory techniques that are still recognizable today. But alchemy differs from modern science in the inclusion of Hermetic principles and practices related to mythology, magic, religion, and spirituality.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alchemy
The show already has the science vs magic theme, and alchemy is sort of like a bridge between the two.But I gues alchemy might be connected with witchraft. Rumple is using very often potion. Now I wonder if he is able to do some kind of alchemy or we might already seen him doing some of it.
Rumple turning straw into gold is very much like alchemy. Maybe he took that basic alchemical principal of turning metals into gold, and worked out some magic to tweak it so it worked with straw.

ParticipantHm, so whoever wrote the book didn’t know the Pinocchio story right? August had to put it in there himself. (Which brings up the question of how he knew it wasn’t in there to begin with.)
Just because Pinocchio’s story wasn’t already in there, that doesn’t mean that whoever wrote it didn’t know the story. If someone knew all the other stuff, then they’d know Pinocchio’s story too. So why would they want Pinocchio’s story untold? If Pinocchio’s story involved going to NL as his Pleasure Island, and if there were certain truths about NL that PP didn’t want Henry discovering, then it would make sense for him to have left Pinocchio’s story out if he wrote Henry’s book. But perhaps August thought it was information that Henry (and the rest of SB) ought to have, so he went right ahead and added it in at a time when PP couldn’t know that it had been done. Sneaky August is Sneaky?
Now, going back to Belle potentially getting hold of the book, and we know that the kid who plays Pinocchio has been hanging around set too. Maybe August wrote some clues into his story. Maybe if Belle meets Pinocchio in SB, she’ll be inspired to read his story in the book, pick up on clues that were left by August, and figure out what’s going on in NL.
Perhaps?

ParticipantGood point Phee, that Regina is emotional and Greg did literally burn any bridge there (with electricity!). I could see her wanting to kill him.
She completely relished telling Greg that she’d killed his dad, even gave him a little smirk right before she said he was dead. So yep, I’m pretty sure Regina is done with having any sort of sympathetic emotion towards Greg.
You know, it would be kind of funny if Hook ran over Greg with the JR (by accident upon entering NL), seeing as how Greg ran over Hook with his car.
Sometimes revenge is a piece of cake! 😛

ParticipantI remember reading an interview recently where A and E said that Regina will do whatever she needs to do to get Henry and that it’s an anything goes type of situation for her (can’t remember their exact wording). So if she sees Rumple is all murderous and thinks he’ll get the job done better than the Charmings I doubt she’ll have a problem with him going super dark. I think she and Rumple will be more on the same page with how to handle things while the Charmings will obviously be against playing dirty.
Taking the comments from K&H, and also from Lana, (“She was born to be bad, and we’re gonna see her return to EQ mode,” (or words to that effect)) into consideration, I think she’ll be as evil as is necessary…but not against the Charmings. That would show some progress for her, if she’s still being a badass, but she’s moving on from being obsessed with destroying the Charmings.
Now, if Rumple goes all blind rage murderousy (my new fave word, PriceofMagic) and is gonna destroy PP and sacrifice himself in the process if need be as a means to save Henry, I can totally see Regina just letting him go for it without trying to talk sense into him. If he wants to kill himself, let him. No great loss for Regina, if anything, it means that the one person she considers her superior gets eliminated and she becomes top dog. She gets a promotion and gets her son back: double WIN.
Regina can still essentially side with the Charmings, use her determination and power to try and destroy PP, and have Rumple’s suicide mission as her backup plan to save Henry.

Participantor if like some have suggested, Ariel meets Neal in FTL after he fell through and before he met MAP.
I reckon there’s pretty much zero chance of that, just because look at how dry he was: http://screencapped.net/tv/onceuponatime/displayimage.php?album=1449&pid=1658013#top_display_media Hair, face, clothes, all dry. If he’d been lying front down on the sand after being hauled out of the water, even if his back had dried off, his front would still be soaked. When he fell out of the portal in London, he landed face down on the ground. I reckon the same thing happened when he fell out of the portal in FTL.
(Whenever I think of Splash, I see her stretched out in the tub and her tail unfolding.)
Yes, loved that bit! A while back I wondered if Ariel could be in SB somewhere, and if so, I figured she probably became a part time mermaid when magic came back. If she’s a part time mermaid in other realms though, I think they’d have to make it a situation where she gets sick if she’s not in the water, because otherwise, she has it too easy getting the best of both worlds.
What if Ariel was how Rumple got the squid ink with the “squid” in question being Ursula, or what if the squid is the “Kraken”?
I’m currently thinking that Ursula will be a Kraken. Giant squid sea monsters are generally thought of as living waaaaay down deep, “bottom of a bottomless ocean” type stuff. Giving their Kraken a name automatically gives it a personality and a consciousness, which makes it more ominous. It also sets their Kraken apart from the PotC Kraken, which didn’t have a name, (people already compare elements of this show to PotC, so you know they’ll keep doing it if we have creepy squids, and potentially Davy Jones at some point).
As for Rumple getting the squid ink, at the moment, my money is on that having been part of some previous deal(s) that Rumple himself made with Ariel’s parents, which resulted in his having a trident as a trophy by the time of Skin Deep.
Surely they’re gonna have a story that shows how Ariel’s mother died, (they love killing off parents on this show). In Disney she was crushed by a pirate ship, but they could do anything with it. Make her go steal ink from a Kraken and that sets up a dangerous situation for her. Make her seriously injured in the attempt, and you’ve got a situation where Triton would be desperate enough to give up his trident if Rumple had a way to heal her, (which ultimately didn’t work, and she died). That would connect the story of what happened to Ariel’s mother to something we’ve already seen specifically mentioned, and would set up Ariel having animosity towards Rumple in present day. Would tie it all together nicely.
In Disney, Ursula temporarily gets the trident when Triton trades places with Ariel as her prisoner. The fact that Rumple is the one with the trident means that if they wanna stick with the trident being acquired when Triton traded places with Ariel, that makes Rumple our Ursula who was holding Ariel prisoner, and now has Triton.
OR, Ursula had Ariel, then got Triton and the trident, and Rumple offed Ursula to get the trident.
Either way, by the time of Skin Deep, it looks like Triton is potentially powerless if Rumple has his trident.
Ursula is pretty iconic so I don’t think they wouldn’t include her. However, I do think Rumple and/or Regina come into play after the original deal. Perhaps Ariel was on the losing end of the 3 day deal so she became Ursula’s slave and as a result of that would be in the perfect position to retrieve the squid ink for Rumple in exchange for her freedom.
Ah, the 3 day deal, another thing I’ve wondered about them including or not. In Anderson’s, there was no time limit, it was just if the prince ended up marrying someone else. My Hookriel bias imagines that they go with the Anderson version, and when Ariel sees CaptainSwan getting close in present day she gets paranoid, because if Hook marries Emma, Ariel dies. But the 3 day deal is a major plot point in the Disney version, (as is the threat of Ariel being enslaved to Ursula), so they may well include it.
I think Ursula’s role largely depends on how much they want to use Ariel and where in Ariel’s story we are when we met her. If she has never become human then Ursula will probably play a larger role and not be Regina; if, like Macy suggested a few pages back, the events of the Little Mermaid as we know them have passed and Ariel is older than her normal 16 years, then Ursula will probably only be used in one or two flashbacks when we learn about Ariel’s past and in that case, she could be Regina.
I’ve always thought of it as though her story of becoming human has already played out. It would be unusual for this show to show us the story we know of happening in present day, instead of in the past.
If the big bad of S3 (part 1) is PP/Tink/THO and the big bad of S3 (part 2) is THO in SB and S4 is mostly Oz (wild prediction based on only a few hints) then Ursula doesn’t need to be any more than Ariel’s personal enemy and not the enemy of the whole core cast.
Agreed. Even if Ursula is a villain in present day NL, they’re not staying there for forever, probably not even a whole season, so Ursula wouldn’t be much use as a villain for very long if she’s confined to the waters of NL. On the other hand, if you have Regina filling the role, odds are pretty good that she’ll still be around even after they leave NL.
Making Regina into Ariel’s sea witch, and Ursula an actual sea monster could work well. They could still have Ursula attack, like in Disney, where she grew huge and then Eric killed her. Having the monster squid come to the surface and attack in present day NL could be a nod to that movie scene. If the JR is under threat, you know that Hook is gonna throw down with that squid and get his big hero moment when he kills her. But even with squid Ursula dead, if Regina was the sea witch, there’s still a villain from that story who is alive and walking around and going back home with them.

ParticipantHenry didn’t have his backpack when he jumped in the portal. Emma picks it up in the mine when they notice he’s missing, but then she doesn’t have it when the 4 of them are running towards the docks. So if the book was in the backpack, it should still be in SB.
ETA: Snap, Josephine, we posted the same thing at the same time. LOL

ParticipantI wonder what their answer about Rumple reverting means – it’ll have a profound effect on him how?!?!?!?!? ugh, so excited!
I reckon he’s gonna go to the darkest place he’s ever been to emotionally. Which is saying something, because he’s already been to some dark places. K&H keep saying that NL is a place that makes you confront your past, and who you truly are. Rumple thinks his son is dead. Rumple orchestrated the Curse, manipulated many people, destroyed a whole world, to get to his son. Who is now dead. All that hurt he caused, was for nothing. Is it any wonder Rumple thinks he’s on a suicide mission? Death is what he thinks he deserves.
Under normal circumstances, the Charmings could most definitely rely on Rumple more than they could Regina. But I reckon Rumple’s gonna block everyone else out to go and meet the fate he believes awaits him all on his own.
And Robert Carlyle is gonna break my heart into a million itty bitty pieces in the process.

ParticipantI’m not sure if embedding works when you wanna post more than 2 tweets in a conversation. Let’s see if I can get it all to show properly…
who wrote Henry's book? I know people think August but he went through the portal before Emma, & the book shows a pic of a bloody Charming.
— Kandice (@kandice31) August 2, 2013
@MaanHhhwelll @AdamHorowitzLA yeah but people still say August. I never thought it was actually him.

@MaanHhhwelll @kandice31 not August

ParticipantWith the whole Home Office and Peter Pan storylines, there’s got to be a connection to Henry. Whatever Peter wants with Henry, he apparently didn’t need it until Henry was the age in the picture or he couldn’t be sure of it as a baby was not good enough to match to the picture.
I reckon the age he was needed at is related to when Emma would break the Curse. Henry’s experience of having to get Emma to believe is what caused he himself to be such a hardcore believer, and…Heart of the Truest Believer, seems like that’s what PP is in need of.
Regina’s love interest–could it just be referring to Genie/Sydney? He was unrequited love but still love.
Someone recently tweeted Adam asking about Regina’s “new” love interest, and he replied that he’d be coming soon.
So what is first and foremost on the minds of SB, with the beans destoyed, EQ and Rump gone along with the charmings? Huge power vacuum, usually that means panic in an angry mob scene.
Granny and her crossbow will take care of any mob scenes. I’m thinking that cloaking spell doesn’t hold for long, and THO finds a way in.
Ariel connection to group: my Hookriel ship flag just went up.
Even though I totally think Regina is gonna be Ursula…it’s not like they specified that Ariel would only have a connection to one main character. 😉
Do you guys think that episode 3, which we know is Regina centric, will be how she adopted Henry.
I think it’s a distinct possibility, yes.
