I agree that it’s going to be a long road to a RumBelle reunion. However, as I posted in the RumBelle thread, the whole Rumple gives up power isn’t a simple solution because, not only does Rumple believe he needs the power to protect his loved ones, but the other characters only reinforce this belief by constantly running to Rumple for a magical solution when something starts going down in town. Rumple is being set up to fail by the heroes and then criticised for his failings.

The way Rumple went about trying to free himself from the dagger and keep his power, eg hatting people and trying to crush Hook’s heart, were wrong but in reality what were his options?

    1. TLK with Belle, break the curse and lose the power- All well and good until a new big bad comes to town and the heroes come crying to him for help, only this time he can’t do anything. Belle is then vulnerable and Rumple himself is then vulnerable to a more powerful enemy, and the reason why Rumple keeps the power is to protect his loved ones.

    2. Rumple keeps the curse and the power- Rumple is at risk of another Zelena situation happening and would constantly live in fear of that because if it can happen once, it can happen again. Even entrusting the “dagger” to Belle lead to Belle trying to use it against him, and the next person to try and use it against him might not be so good-hearted as Belle and could be 10 times worse than Zelena.

    3. Rumple frees himself from the dagger but gets to keep the power- This is a good option. It removes the risk of option 2 but avoids the consequences of option 1. It’s a win/win. Rumple can use his power to protect loved ones yet not be controlled. However, the only way to achieve this is hatting people you don’t like and crushing the heart of someone you really don’t like.

Of the 3 options which would you choose?

Rumple is in a no-win situation because either way is “wrong” in some form and the heroes will criticise him for it.

I am irritated that it is another character who possibly turned evil due to being misunderstood or unloved (or both) in the past.

    Sigh.

Here’s the thing though. The general view of the villains on the show is that “Evil isn’t born, it’s made” therefore every villain on the show is going to have a reason for why they are the way they are. How far these reasons are explored or whether or not you feel sympathy for the villains is up to individual interpretation but they’re not going to have a character be evil “just because they’re evil”.

This is nice in theory but power is Rumple’s true love. I think it’ll be very difficult for him to let go of that altogether. I think he still thinks that he can still have it all and that’s what the quest for the author will be about for him. He wants Belle and he still wants the power and thinks he can have both. He’s still making the same mistakes and hasn’t learned anything.

I disagree about Rumple’s true love being power. Here’s the thing though, Rumple believes that he needs magic and power to protect his loved ones for various reasons and so far that belief has only been reinforced by the other characters.

Whenever something goes wrong in town, all the other characters run to Rumple for a magical solution. Snowing are a prime example of this. You can’t really say to someone “you should give up magic” only to run to them later on and say “we need you to use magic to help us”. The heroes can’t have it both ways.

The real question is, is Rumple being set up to fail by the heroes? They want the use of his magic when it’s convenient for them, but they don’t want him to free himself from the dagger so that he can keep his power yet not risk being controlled.

Perhaps Pongo is actually Cruella ?

I don’t think so. Cruella is outside Storybrooke and she, Ursula and Rumple somehow get into Storybrooke. Pongo is already in Storybrooke.

So the latest Rumbelle teaser today made me wonder, should Belle forgive Rumple? What are everyone’s thoughts on this?

Myself, I think Belle’s forgiveness should be hard-fought. It’s not just her forgiveness, her trust in Rumple is broken as well and it’s difficult to maintain a relationship (any kind of relationship) without trust. Other question, is Rumple deserving of Belle’s forgiveness?

Yes to both questions. However, I do agree that Rumple should have to work hard to earn Belle’s trust and forgiveness.

I think Rumple’s reasoning behind wanting to be free of the dagger is understandable, he needs his magic to protect his loved ones but doesn’t want to risk being controlled like Zelena did to him, it was his methods that were wrong. The writers needed to emphasise Rumple’s motives more in 4A because he did come across as doing it more for the power whereas the trauma of 3B is what really prompted his actions in 4A.

Belle was right to do what she did, Rumple was out of control, and he needed that wake up call to sort himself out even though it hurt the both of them to go through that. However, I don’t think Belle is ready to give up on Rumple just yet and he’s not ready to give up on her.

It seems Cruella does shape shift into a dalmation. What if Pongo is also a shape shifter but was trapped in dalmation form during the curse like Maleficent was trapped in dragon form? What if there is more to Pongo than meets the eye?

It’ll be interesting if we do see Paige again.

Thanks for the invite Watcher but I don’t think some of us are welcomed there.

Interestingly this is what some people in the CS thread think (as in they don’t think they’re welcomed). Feel free to join in. The more the merrier.

Laughing that least favorite ship falls on Valentine’s Day. How appropriate.

That was unintentional, I was too busy coming up with categories to fill February to realise the significance of day 14. I don’t do Valentine’s day 🙂

Hopefully this means Belle will get a decent amount of screentime in 4B and that we’ll get actual scenes of RumBelle together where they get to talk without being interrupted.

I never checked the 28 days of once before and now i regret it it seems fun :) do they mind if i join later and do the past questions to? I would like to write my opinion about CS @obisgirl

Feel free to join ilayda. The more the merrier 🙂

@lady and @obisgirl you both did wonderful work outlining why this ship is so beautiful-thank you!!! I won’t be participating (refuse to leave this thread) but thank you for representing CS. That said, I’m sure we’ll get bashed tomorrow for Day 14 (and on Valentine’s Day too!). Meh, don’t care. Frankly, I’ve become pretty ambivalent about anything outside this thread. It’s always the same people complaining about this and that anyway.. On the bright side, two more weeks before the hiatus is over.

When I created the thread I didn’t realise I’d put least favourite canon ship for Valentine’s day until this week. I was just trying to think up enough categories to fill February at the time. Feel free to join in, it has been a fun thread and there’s not been any bashing.
