my guess is whoever was next in line becomes Sultan, after Jafar kidnaps his father. This Sultan is Jasmine’s father.

    That actually fits? I think…?

I have been wondering if it would be the same Sultan as in OUATinWL or not. I can’t think of reason why it wouldn’t be but I assume a and e have a technicality that will be as unsatisfactory as the Ana excuse.

In other news it is in fact Street Rats!

Although Hyde is supposed to be the beast, I thought he was surprisingly gentlemanly in his scenes with Mary

Gentlemanly, yes, but…a different sort. It’s like (struggles to think of an example…) Sheldon Cooper vs James Bond. One of those characters screams “sex.” It’s just part of their make up because of how they are presented and how the world perceives them. It’s a very masculine and raw (if that makes sense) sort of potency.  There’s a casually sexual ease to him…Mary is certainly drawn to him because he embodies all the passion and desire she’s looking for.

ETA: just to clarify I’m not condoning that sort of mind set that dictates classically handsome men automatically are automatically labeled as sexy or invoking sexual feelings, but it’s certainly apparent in media (James Bond really is the best example here)

And I think we’ll get a boost again next week due to the big hyped up Aladdin and Jasmine episode.

    I do as well.

Or if we have a villain in the pair, the other character needs to be (1) extremely likable and (2) they must really care about the villain character, thus transmitting some of that emotion to the audience by association.

I think you summed it up really well. I sorta agree with AKA or anyone else defending Rumple because in his own way this is how he protects his family and he’s literally just being the same person he’s always been. Belle comes across as an absolute indecisive shrew but that’s also pretty unfair to how her character has been presented in the past. Neither of these two are very likable anymore.

I really don’t understand why they bothered including Belle in this show, because IMO they have done such an awful job with her character throughout.

    That too.

I think it does make sense to me that “the original person” has to die in order for the “split side” of the person to be destroyed. I mean its just a concept made for this fairytale.. We all know its not a possibility in real life.

Of course not, but that’s not the issue. The issue is whether or not there’s such a thing as an original you. Let’s take another character as an example: Hook.

If Hook were to split, it would (most likely) be into Killian Jones and Pirate!Hook. If they went the route they did with Regina, there would be little to no difference between the split Killian Jones and the Killian Jones we see walking around SB unsplit.

But is that Killian Jones (both newly split and non split Killian) the same Killian Jones we met as a young naval officer in 305? Is he the same Killian Jones we met in s2 “Crocodile” before he ever lost his hand? No. Is it the same DNA and physically the same person, yes, but that’s not what makes a person, as least it’s not the grand total of personhood.

So therefore the idea that to kill newly split Hook you must kill his original which would be newly split Killian doesn’t hold any water because the Killian we see now is not the same Killian he was 250+ years ago. It’s not even the same Killian we saw back in present day S2! There is no “original” you that stays original throughout your lifetime. That’s not how identity works. You are an ever evolving, ever changing being and your experiences add to you identity not wholly replace.

And I think the Oracle is Jafar still but then that would mean Jasmine is working with him and why would he want to help Jasmine find Aladdin?

Unless she doesn’t know the Oracle is Jafar.

How is Rumple in fictional london?  The same place we know Bae ended up…

Actually Adam and eddy have always maintained that Bae was in real London .

confused as to why if you think that Regina and the EQ are one and the same, that killing Regina wouldn’t kill the EQ as well?  I

If they are integrated, yes. But the idea that killing an “original” is how you kill the doppelganger still split baffles me. There is no such thing as an original person or persona that has some sort of dominance over the other aspects of who you are. To quote Whitman, “I am large and i contain multitudes.” All of them are you and you are all of them. The Regina we know now has no more primacy over identity than does the EQ. That’s not original Regina at all.
