Indeed, stroppy does cover Neal in that scene. “She’s got me now” Such a petulant line. I had wondered whether on Neverland you revert to your teenage self, cos that’s definitely how both Hook and Neal were acting. At least Hook dressed it up as being noble. Hook knew exactly what he was doing when he told Neal about the kiss. “Well this is awkward” my foot, he wanted Neal to squirm. 😉

Hmm…I like that idea that NL caused Neal and Hook to revert to their teenage/childish selves!  Definitely would help me digest the lighter scene a little easier *shudders*.  In all seriousness though, that would have been an extremely interesting concept for the NL arc – what if NL did somehow cause you to revert?  How would the characters handle that while also attempting to save Henry?

I chalk Hook and Neal’s childishness up to pure awkwardness.  They have so much history (I believe; I think Bae was on Hook’s ship for quite some time — oh the things we’ll never get answers to), that alone would’ve made meeting each other again awkward – and then they realize they’re in love (debatable, but I digress) with the same girl.

Having spent three years with a Brit gent, I smiled at “a bit stroppy”.

    Perfect.

Loving the videos, as usual. I am not much for “married, baby-on-board graphics” but the “I love you more” made me smile bigtime and text my kids  with the same message 🙂

    Many thanks!

Hehe, I had to smile that so many didnt know what “stroppy” was as well- It’s used commonly in NZ lol & yep it fits Neal’s behavior exactly.

I’m not much for the way out there AU stuff either, but thought it was very cute this time- daddy/daughter pirate captain talk, seems just very ‘once’ to me lol 😉

Also on the subject of “stroppy”–I’m not sure if this is common knowledge to those of you who knew this word beforehand, but it’s also an excellent word for this discussion because of its etymology–apparently it comes from British nautical slang. Fun stuff!

(In case you were wondering: yes. Yes I am a linguistics nerd.)

Common word down my way too, but never knew where it came from. That’s really cool! I love finding out about stuff like that. 😀

    Loved this meta 🙂

“I’d go to the end of the world for her… or time.”

    image

“He sees Emma approaching but he doesn’t smile – instead he glances down at his flask – she’s caught him drinking. At first glance it seems as if Hook is outside having a drink alone because he’s a bit down. Sad that after all he and Emma have been through she still doesn’t love him. Even after witnessing the birth of her parents love – which was so very like their own meeting. Even after realizing that Henry had brought to Storybrooke not to break a curse but to bring her home – just as he himself had done for her. Even after facing the death of her mother – and possibly the end of her own existence – together. Even after all that her heart is still closed to him. He could be numbing himself because he’s heartbroken that Emma cares for him – but not in the way he cares for her.
For he’s given all he can for her and she still hasn’t opened her heart to him – but Killian Jones isn’t complaining. In fact Killian Jones isn’t simply drowning his sorrows in rum. He’s drinking to pass the time – as he has done for 300 years. 300 years of mourning for Milah, 300 years of waiting for his chance for revenge. 300 years of waiting in a land where time doesn’t exist. 300 years is a long time but Killian Jones is a patient man. And now he’s waiting again. For Emma.
Charming asked “Prince Charles” if his princess shared his devotion “And she for you I take it?” and Hook responded “I don’t know”. In that moment he was admitting that Emma may not now and might not ever return his love. But as Hook told Neal, he’s in it for the long haul. He’s not going to give up on her – not ever; he’ll be there for her even if it means a lifetime of unrequited love.
So when Hook told Charming that he’d “go to the end of the world…or time” for his princess, it was of course a bit of an inside joke – because he had already traveled past the end of this world (and others) for her and now he’s traveled through time for her. It’s one of the most romantic lines he’s ever spoken with regards to his love for Emma, but the true weight of the statement is in the secondary meaning – because what he’s really saying is that he would follow her…forever. He would wait until the end of time if that’s how long it took to earn her love.
And that’s what Emma needed most in life and in love. She needed someone who would never give up. She needed a lover who was determined yet patient when it came to winning her heart – someone who would stay by her side – for 300 years or until the end of time – with the faith that eventually she would be ready to open her heart to love.
She needed a friend and he has been that and more for her. She needed a “partner who knows what he’s doing”. And Killian Jones most certainly knows how to dance with Emma Swan – he knows when to lead and when to follow.
He’s followed her through realms and followed her through time. He’s risked his life for her. He’s given up his home. He’s given all he has to give. So when Emma joins him outside Granny’s diner, clearly seeking him out but also clearly unpracticed with letting someone inside the walls of her heart, he knows she needs help to let him in – he knows it’s his turn to lead. But he has nothing left to offer her – nothing to offer but the simple fact that he has nothing left to give.
And Emma chooses that moment to let him in. Not because he gave up his ship for her – but because in that moment he’d given her something she’d been waiting her whole life for but didn’t even know she wanted, and certainly didn’t think was possible for her – to be somebody’s everything. Her parents have a new child, her son has another mother, but Killian Jones is all hers, hers and hers alone. And for a girl who felt so unwanted and so unloved for her whole life, it’s possible that the only way to mend a heart so broken was for her to find a person who could offer their WHOLE HEART to her and her alone.
Their journey back in time showed Emma that the love her parents have for one another is not just the stuff of legends – it’s real and it’s possible. Watching her parents fall in love with Killian by her side helped her to realize that she was already in the middle of her very own fairy tale romance.
Killian had been aware of that for quite a while- aware that they were already in a relationship. Probably everyone but Emma herself was aware of it. He just had to maintain the hope that someday she would stop running long enough to realize it. Their trip through time gave him that hope – by watching the Charmings fall in love he had proof that sometimes girls on the run do settle down if they find the right partner, and sometimes it just takes them a while to admit their feelings.
And now his wait is finally over. And so is hers.

Jen gave an interview at the beginning of the season after we were three episodes into 3a. I can’t remember all of it but I remember she said Neverland brought out “raw, violent emotions in everyone.”

    Found it!

“Neverland makes it so you can’t really have your guard up, you return to your feelings of your childhood so everyone’s operating out of a more raw place. We’re all much more emotional, volatile and intense.” – JMo on Good Morning America
