ParticipantSince I mostly watch Once for the pure entertainment and escapism value, I try to avoid “too deep” evaluations. Plot holes don’t impact me as much as some other message board dwellers. (been there, done that, I am more laid back and taking it much easier now! I really don’t care if there are little voids of believability.)
From a TV lifetime of inevitable cancelations, character deaths, disappointments and lack of creative control(grin) I have developed an attitude of cautious emotional detachment even with characters of whom I am extremely fond.
They are not ‘mine’ to guide or control as the characters of my own writing/novels are. And as such I am at the mercy of other writers’ whims. Which is always risky to invest in emotionally.
Also, because of so many compelling stories to be told for so many ensemble characters, A&E have to rely a ton on the talent of the actors to say a hundred lines of dialog with one look. Fortunately their lead characters do that in aces. (case in point the blog you posted/linked, surayya we got volumes from a few *looks*) But it leaves a lot of storyline to be *surmised*. We surmise deep and intense things for Hook and Emma because their struggles and path to love speaks to us.
However, from a realist point of view, at one point, I didn’t care who Hook connected with as long as it was enough to keep him solidly employed on the show (heh). Emma was too stoic and too hard for my personal liking for one as deeply soulful as Hook. Many times, I have thought she didn’t deserve him! I am not even so sure she does now actually. She still hasn’t lived up to the devotion he shows her. She has things to prove. And I am one who usually camps her wagon behind the female characters.
I hope we will see a lot of forward progress of the fun, sassy-snark and sexier variety in S4 for Hook and Emma. So much potential there to take that coupling to adventurous places. Backsliding into sulky, brooding, stoic territory would not be entertaining anymore.
Let Regina handle the angst this season. She emotes beautifully. And they have created quite the dilemma for her!
I want to see Hook raise a lot of eyebrow and smile rapscallionishly (heh) through his twinkling, gorgeous, guyliner eyes and be boldly audacious in his newfound romance. And it would be realllly satisfying if Emma got her sexy back.

ParticipantLove your post, @Bo-Peeps! I do like doing some character analysis, but in the end OUAT is exactly that for me – fun escapism. And that is what I want from OUAT first and foremost – am I having a blast for the hour I’m watching every Sunday? Do I love re-watching….and re-watching….and re-watching….yes? Excellent. That OUAT also can make you think is great. But in the end, I don’t think that’s A&E’s point – I think their focus is bringing us on a fun ride. In regard to Emma, have to agree with you there, too. I like Emma, but up until 3B, she could really start to grate on my nerves. I like that Hook mellows her out. I think now that she’s acknowledging what he means to her, she’ll continue to come out of her shell and realize she can enjoy those little moments Daddy Charming was telling her about.
I’m watching the Hollywood Reporter Roundtables on the biography channel…it’s the first time I’ve seen it, and it’s interviewing some comedic lead actresses…they’re talking about social media and it’s striking such a chord in regard to the conversations a lot of us have had lately – about how people seem to forget that Adam & the actors and writers are actual people, and a little respect goes a lot farther then insults and ‘constructive’ criticism that isn’t so constructive. Seeing actresses say ‘it’s hurtful’ is intense – and I think something anyone who mouths off and thinks they have the right to be rude should see.

ParticipantWaves to Jenna 🙂
Yeah, when a lot of people hide behind the the Internet Cloak of Anonimity they lose a portion of their humanity.
Frankly, I think the one’s who practice that particular art of zero accountability get off on the pain and harm they cause. Gives them a very immature sense of power but really proves nothing but their cowardice.
And on the shallower level of immature (laughing at myself) I saw some pictures of sweet Colin from Dust Storm and thought he looked like the younger nerdish brother of Hook who has trouble getting serious dates because his older brother is so totally cool! Ha!
Bring back the scruff, Babycakes! It makes me much more comfortable about my decidedly non-maternal leanings towards the Captain.
La la laaaa!
I miss our Scruff Muffin

LOL I saw something on Tumblr a while ago comparing scruffy Hook to clean shaven Colin. Basically, Hook is the guy we’d all like to F@$k but Colin’s the guy we’d just pat on the cheek and hand him an ice cream cone. He does look like a choir boy.

ParticipantIt’s Hook that my literary and eye-candy heart craves (grin).
It does, however give a great walking, (Irish accent) talking testament to just how GOOD Colin is in crafting his *art*.
The long leather coat doesn’t hurt, either.

ParticipantI decided to read more titles on the forum today mostly the character discussions i just can’t believe how many people here are hating Regina and Hook just because they love Emma or Neal. Unbelievable.
