ParticipantAbout the second sneak peek anyone really surprised it went that way? I’m not, not in the slightest, not even a little, never thought it wouldn’t go that way even for a second. We know Hook is a man of honor, we know he loves Emma and to see the point re emphasized just because was nice…. I’ll be busy celebrating 😛

Participant
How much do I LOVE Hook???? He doesn’t even THINK about it with the wench – just immediately sends her on her way. Keep in mind that at this point I am guessing he still believes he is never going to see Emma again. It is totally different for him this time around. He loved Milah but it is implied that after she died even though he was seeking revenge for her death and was still not “over” her he was screwing around with other women. With Emma though, even though he believes he is never going to see her again – he is remaining loyal to her because he knows that she is his True Love. That is one seriously devoted, honorable, and lovestruck pirate!!
YES!
I’m seeing in the chat how fans would like to see Hook be less resistant to the wench’s charms and there’s probably a bit of dialogue that’s missing from that sneak peek because there was a ‘quick’ cut’ that happened. But usually when there is a ‘quick cut’ in a sneak peek, it’s something very spoilerly. I’m not saying it involves the wench, but I think it involves Emma. Maybe Hook says that there’s a lass for him out there who he believes is his true love and even if he can’t be with her, he’s going to stay loyal to her memory. Because that’s just who he is.
just confirms that the chat will just never like Hook… he is damned if he does and if he doesnt. no winning… i’m proud of myself – I’ve been staying clear. yeah! 🙂

Participant^^^^ from Hook’s actions in the sneak peek it seems like we are winning, we’re constantly proven right about how we see are ship & characters in our ship that’s about all the winning I need his detractors can say whatever they like.

ParticipantI totally agree POM. I don’t understand the “no happy endings” anymore either. I’ve seen people talking about this with the scenario of both children who have a parent die and biological parents who don’t end up together. To me, the more dangerous message the show can send is that you don’t get a happy ending if someone DOES die or if your biological parents DON’T end up together. I think the problem is in how people are interpreting the message the show is trying to send. I have seen several people say things like “well what I am taking away is that there is no happy ending for me because my parent died when I was a child or because my parents are divorced.” Honestly what they really are saying is that they aren’t happy because Neal died because really ( do they honestly think that the only way they can get validation that they can be happy is through a TV show, in the first place), but second do they really think A and E suddenly decided to change the message of the show being about hope and family?
I think it’s great that they are using Fairy Tales to show the realities of life and are showing that even when crappy things happen you can still get a happy ending. The problem is, some people don’t want to accept that Hook can be a happy ending for Emma and Henry. So because of that they say they don’t get one. Or they say that Neal didn’t get his happy ending. Okay, while I wasn’t thrilled with the bizarre way they handled his death, here is the problem I have with that theory. I know the show hasn’t really delved into the afterlife or religion but as a Christian myself, for me – going to Heaven IS a happy ending, it’s the ULTIMATE happy ending. And when Neal died he seemed to make it pretty clear that he was willingly sacrificing himself for his family (making him a hero) and freed Emma from her difficulty of moving on from him by making her promise to find Tallahassee with someone else. He also had very clearly made peace with his father and was letting BOTH of them know he was okay with dying. So to say that Neal didn’t get a happy ending is assuming a LOT. I realize that’s my interpretation and many people don’t believe in a God or Heaven so they won’t see it that way. But I feel like a lot of people are making themselves miserable by continuing to say that the show has been stripped of happiness. If they need to step away from the show for awhile – do it. Or recognize you are going to watch with a lot less enthusiasm if you choose to continue to watch. But choosing to continue to watch while complaining about the show makes zero sense to me. If you don’t like it anymore and it is causing you personal pain, why are you watching it???? I got a bit bored with the show during season 2 and stopped watching for awhile then get caught up again and got totally into it again. Maybe some SF fans need to consider a break. I feel bad that so many people who used to enjoy the show are so unhappy with it now but at the same time it’s a serious downer to read constant negativity about the show.
I don’t even understand how to use tumblr but I have been reading Captain Eala’s (wow do I miss her!!) because it is so much fun!!!

ParticipantI’ve seen people posting about how the show is no longer about hope and happy endings and basically the rest of Neal’s family should end up dying because they can’t have their happy ending with Neal gone and I just wanted to vent. It’s depressing to read how all the other characters should die horribly and not get their happy endings, just because Neal is dead. The show doesn’t revolve around Neal. Yes it was a shame Neal died and in the way he did, and it would be fair to say that nobody wanted Neal to die, because he did deserve his happy ending, but I disagree with saying that the show is no longer about hope and happy endings.
see and that’s the problem, for some of the fans Neal was the center of the show the entire reason for it. Some looked at Neal’s part in the story to be the anchor for the hope of the show. I know if I had been seeing the show that way it would feel like I had the rug pulled out from under me. I always looked at things as being Emma’s fairytale, her finding her hope, her home, and her happy ending. There’s more than enough reason to believe she’ll find those things.

ParticipantWonderful post, @priceofmagic
The show doesn’t revolve around Neal.
Yes! That’s what I’ve been saying, just because Neal died, doesn’t mean the story is done. There’s still loads of more story to tell.
To me, SwanFire were a “real” fairytale. They weren’t about slaying dragons, rescuing princesses, or going on quests. They were about 2 people in the real world, finding each other despite the odds and loving each other. They’ve had to go through crap, childhood abandonment, breaking up, separated parents to Henry. Whilst Snowing and RumBelle deal with the more fantastical issues, curses, witches, etc, SwanFire always dealt with the more “real world” issues.
Yes, I agree with this too. Like how many times was it stressed in interviews from 3A about Emma’s issue with Neal, him leaving her? That’s a real world issue. We know why Neal left her, but keep in mind, Emma had no idea what was the real reason at the time. For all she knew, Neal skipped out on her and went to Canada.
Once is still about hope and happy endings, not in the idealized terms that everyone gets a happy ending, but in the real terms that despite all the tragedy and heartbreak that befalls these characters, they can still pull through, it does get better for them, they can move on without forgetting what they lost.
Yes.

ParticipantPoM~ I embrace your vent wholeheartedly!
No Hope and lives destined for misery IS a depressing message. But it is not the message of OUAT. It is the message that some of the viewers choose to create because, in essence, the story tellers did not tell the story they wanted to see. It is their message. They are more than entitled to it. For whatever their reason. They must own it. The rest can just sidestep and follow a different path.
Any one of us could lose a beloved character at the whim of *the story.* It is not our story to tell. Hope though, is not lost. Not with these creators!

your comment about “EF version of tavern alley phone sex” had me, truly, laughing out loud! Thanks for the moment 🙂

ParticipantGreat post, pom!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….this is an ensemble show. Not Emma’s, not Rumple’s and not Neal’s. So you have to keep an open mind when it comes to storyline and you’ve got to be careful when it comes to falling for characters because no one is safe. That’s why yes, I ship CS but have backup ships and 2nd, 3rd and 4th favorite ships and – most importantly, if they did decide to go the SF (or I guess SwanQueen but really) I would still be on board. Because I’m here for the show, not JUST my pirate.
I can’t wait to see the sneak peek! Wharever they do with Hook’s backstory I don’t think I’ll mind because no matter what it appears it’s going to be good!

And again, if Oncers are so incredibly unhappy with the show right now, then please, stop watching. No one forces you to watch something you’re not happy with. Take a break from the show if you need too. Being miserable and spreading hate isn’t going to make anyone feel better, only make the situation worse.
I wrote a post about this. I feel part of the problem with Neal’s death for SwanFire and Neal fans, is that they never fully prepared themselves for the possibility that the death would be him.
