One thing I love about SF is the subtlety between them. Neal moving to the side to let Emma in then standing behind her when she using magic. They don’t need big moments or awful romantic speeches to show how much they care about each other, it natural between them.

Natural that pretty much sums them up. Emma and Neal are each other heart song they flow together in perfect sync. It almost as if Emma is at piece because her other half is with her. The SwanFireQueen (LOL) family moment, Neal said We believe in you, Emma followed it up Because we Love you and Regina with More than anything. SwanFireQueen family can work!

Love what you both said about them being natural. Great way to describe them! And yes, the SwanFireQueen parenting trio can totally work together for Henry, we now have proof!

Neal’s known that Emma has magic since the Cora showdown in the shop. Back then, his, “I didn’t know you were magical,” was said in a pretty casual and curious way, so I don’t think that her having magic in and of itself is something that he’s especially concerned about. I think what he’s concerned about is the fact that she’s getting magical instruction from Regina, because Regina trades in dark magic, and Neal has seen his father fall into the clutches of dark magic, and he doesn’t want to see the same thing happen to someone else he loves.

We dunno how/if her magical education will continue they’re out of NL. Would Regina keep instructing her? Would Rumple take over? Blue? Tink if she gets her magic back? Or will she just experiment on her own?

They were poor spinner and yet they have a magic bean that, according to Malcolm, will fetch TONS of money?

They’re also dressed very well for poor spinners. And they’re dressed almost identically, apart from their jewellery and their shawls, (one has a dark grey/almost black one, and the other is more reddish brown). The different jewellery in particular really stands out. If they’re just a couple of women who spin in their home, are they really gonna have matching uniforms? Their clothing makes me suspicious, but I dunno what to make of it.

And then there’s just 2 of them, but characters you think they could possibly be, come in sets of 3. The 3 fairies who raised Aurora, the 3 Fates. There was some talk before the ep aired about how Malcolm is the name of a character in Macbeth, and in that there are 3 witches. And those witches have the gift of prophecy, which is totally a thing that relates to Rumple’s life, and the bean is a thing that’s built into how the prophecy played out later on with Bae, so 3 prophetic Shakespearean witches would totally work…if there wasn’t just 2 of them.

And I’m gonna guess that the fake box Rumple was holding, ended up inside the real box with him, so there isn’t a fake box still lying around somewhere for people to pick up and get confused by.

I wanna say that the black sail is to do with the Shadow. But then what’s with the pixie dust?

Looking at the screenshot — I think Regina uses the pixie dust to imbue the sail with the shadow’s power to fly/travel

    That would make sense!

Maybe the shadow’s power is needed more to steer the ship in the right direction, because we know that the shadow knows the way to our world, but they need the pixie dust to aid in the actual taking off and flying part?

I definitely think that Rumple consciously incorporated traits of his father into his Dark One persona. We know that he makes magic by tapping into the anger, and it probably makes it all the easier to tap into it when you adopt traits of the person you hate the most. Was he at all giggly before Bae went down the beanhole? Off the top of my head, I’m wanting to say that he wasn’t, that he only started doing that post-beanhole. It’d make a lot of sense for him to have started laughing like his father after the incident when he’d repeated his father’s most emotionally destructive mistake.

More interesting though–look at Rumple’s shadow, well hello there, shadow that’s supposed to be cut off!

(I came across that GIF and had to share that shadow thing, because I remember how obsessively we looked for people’s shadows back in the “who is pan, killipan, nealfirepan, felixpan ” days…..we needn’t have bothered, they aren’t that meticulous.

I noticed that on my re-watch. You can see it as he starts to walk up the stairs, too. Like, the guy is talking about how only people who can’t cast a shadow can get through the barrier, and there’s his freaking shadow right there. *sigh*

The Malcolm is Pan reveal and how Pan actually looked like he cared for Rumple as little Rumple was being carried off by the shadow.

The way Robbie played it, I think that Malcolm did regret letting Rumple go, but only in that brief moment, and then he got over it pretty quickly.

Neal telling Rumple that he will help Charming because of being family and that’s what family do.

That’s not what Neal said. “When we get back to SB, you’re gonna save David because it’s the right thing to do, no deals, no favours, understand.” He mentioned nothing about Rumple doing it because Charming is family, he was just saying that when you save someone’s life, you do it because it’s the right thing to do, not for your own personal gain of any kind. Rumple wanted to make a deal where Neal compromised his integrity and Rumple got token forgiveness in exchange for saving Charming’s life. Neal wasn’t having any of that, because you shouldn’t use someone’s life and death situation to get something for yourself. I admire the hell outta him for having put Rumple in his place like that.

To me, that is the biggest difference between SF and CS. Neal isn’t looking to get a kiss out of helping Charming like Hook did. Neal’s just doing it because it’s the right thing to do. That’s what real nobility is.

Surely it can’t be accidental that they’ve now had both Hook and Neal being involved with saving Charming’s life, and one did it in large part so he’d benefit from it personally, while the other very clearly stated that you don’t save someone’s life because there’s personal benefit to you, you just do it because it’s the right thing to do. I just went to re-watch that scene, and when Neal says, “no deals, no favours,” Emma actually looks right at Hook. The contrast between each guy’s motivations had to have been intentional, because it’s so stark.

I don’t know if the writers are saving it, or its just more “who cares, audience already knows” stuff or cut for time. Either way, while I did love the Rumple/pan stuff, I felt like maybe they could have skipped the exposition somewhere to get in a line from Wendy about how Bae gave up everything for them.

Yeah, I hope they DO actually intend to show us that stuff at some point. Maybe they’re saving it for when Neal and Wendy are reunited with John and Michael? You’d think that that dock scene would be a perfect opportunity for a full reunion of Neal and his 3 “siblings” with Emma right there to see it, so I’ll be disappointed if it just gets brushed over again.

I also would have liked a line from Regina to Neal about how she’s glad for Henry’s sake he isn’t dead after all, or SOMETHING.

Guess we’re just supposed to assume that she’s not as anti sharing Henry with the rest of his family as she used to be, but you’re right, it would have been nice to get a line from her about Neal. She does look pretty pissed when Rumple walks off after saying he’s gonna put Henry back in Neal’s arms, but that look is probably more to do with her thinking he’s keeping something from her.

Incidentally, the name #FireThieves won for twitter, not my favorite but hey, at least it is a “hot” name anyway you slice it.

I’m not that keen on it, and I think it’s because it sounds too much like a mashup of two separate words, which means it sounds more like a ship name, rather than the name for a group of fans for a single character.

I know we’d been hoping for more Emma reaction to the DarlingFire reunion, but this right here, what Wendy said to Neal, it’s the same reason that Neal let Emma go, and Emma was right there to witness this conversation.
