Just because he’s using it as an excuse doesn’t mean it’s not true–we know that Henry wanted to know more about his dad from Emma and Hook.

And even if they don’t do it perfectly (they won’t), they’ll HAVE to let Henry and Rumple interact. They MIGHT even let Belle talk to him, if she’s ever on for more than 2 seconds again.

I dunno, I doubt he’d be so wise-cracky in general if his true love were dead, after all they’ve been through. And there’s no story in it if he’s just back because she died. More likely IMO that something happened to her and he was hoping to find a clue in the book that might help him save her.

That’s what I’d like to think, because her being dead doesn’t add up to the end of Wonderland because of two reasons:

    1) Anastasia was revived by Nyx’s water because “she was meant to live on as the White Queen.” Why would she be revived only to die a year later?
    2) The epilogue shows Alice telling her daughter about Will and Anastasia happily ruling Wonderland as the White King and Queen.

I admit I myself am a little concerned that maybe they’re going to disregard how Wonderland ended just because the show failed and they don’t want to pay for Emma Rigby to return (at least not in a regular role), but if they’re going to add Will into the show, shouldn’t they do so in a way that doesn’t upset the people who actually did watch him on Wonderland? So the more optimistic approach is that Will and Anastasia have only been temporarily separated, and now he’s trying to find a way to get back to her. For one, maybe a reason he broke into the Snow Queen’s shop in the first place has to do with all of the mirrors. A looking glass is how he got to Wonderland in the first place, so he could be looking for a new looking glass. Dead or not dead, what happened to Anastasia and how Will got back to Storybrooke in the first place remains to be seen.

    Liked
    – Seeing Zoso at the beginning of the episode. It was a nice throwback.
    – The Apprentice turning into a mouse was an amusing shout out to the Disney Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
    – The magical broomstick.
    – The date between Emma and Hook was fun.
    – Anna getting the best of Rumple. She came off as naive in the beginning, but when the situation arose towards the end, she used her wits. When Rumple normally has the upper hand, it’s nice to see him thwarted for once.

    Mixed
    – The Rumple and Hook subplot. On the one hand it’s fun to see these two refuel their old feud, but on the other hand Rumple is coming across as too self centered and Hook acted a bit too stupid in the way he was trying to make deals with him.
    – Henry becoming Rumple’s apprentice. It’s nice to see Grandpastiltskin bonding, but he’s doing so in order to spy on Rumple for Regina. Hopefully the experience still ends up with the two getting closer and getting to know each other more.

    Disliked
    – Not enough Snow Queen. This felt like an episode to stall the main story arc of this half of the Season.
    – The hint that Anastasia/Red Queen might be dead, based on Will’s expression at the drawing of her. Considering she was revived by Nyx’s water because “it wasn’t her time”, and the fact that Wonderland’s epilogue has Alice explain to her daughter that the two are happily ruling Wonderland together as the White King and Queen, killing her off doesn’t add up. If she’s dead, what was the point of Nyx reviving her because “the White Queen was meant to move on” if she were to only die a few years later? The optimism in me is hoping she’s still alive and their separation is only temporary, but this is still a cause for alarm for the time being.

–Emma’s outfit. Don’t get me wrong. Jennifer Morrison looked good but that was NOT an Emma Swan dress. That was something Emma Swan would never wear on a date. Look at the Pilot and 312 for evidence. Emma’s not a girly girl. She doesn’t dress in lace and frippery. She likes tight jeans and plaids and boots. She looked like something out of the 1950s and Hook was the reformed bad boy in leather. I half expected them to burst into some cliche song halfway through.

Obviously this probably won’t change your opinion, but Jennifer Morrison did give a pretty thorough explanation for the style in dress via this article:

“This is the first time that Emma is wearing something that’s softer and gentler and sweeter and romantic. To me, that was really important, because I wanted it to be symbolic of something very different than the other times we’ve seen her on a date. We’ve seen her with the guy who was a perpetrator that she was after and that was a ruse, that was her just playing a character in order to catch this guy. So she sorta played the stereotypical ‘date’ look. And then we saw her on a date Walsh when she was in New York and she was still having to make her own way and she was a single mom and she was into black leather there’s something still kinda tough and edgy about that. And now, she really likes this guy and she’s very genuine about it and it needs to be something that she found in Storybrooke, because she wouldn’t have had something like that in her wardrobe, so it needs to look like it could have come from Storybrooke, but it also needs to look like something that she feels comfortable in. It’s definitely the softest, most romantic side of her and the fact that she feels safe enough and inspired to express that part of herself to him, I think was a really important thing to show.”

WHAT A FANTASTIC EPISODE!!!   I swear, the writers are really outdoing themselves this season.  LOVED the date!!!  They were so sweet together.  Emma’s reaction when he brought her home and she leaned against the door  SQUEEEEEE!  Now THAT was a look of love 🙂

Poor Hook, he’s dug himself deep.  Emma had better find out soon or I’ll be pissed at him.  Was anyone else screaming at the tv????  Why the HELL would you make a carte blanche deal with the dark one when you know what he’s capable of??? Head, meet desk……

Anna was the absolute best. She outfoxed the fox and got away with it (so far).

So what’s up with Anastasia?  Hope we find out soon.

I feel your frustration with the lost posts.  Wish they had a save function on here, along with a good spoiler block and a preview post option.

So many good feels for now.  More on rewatch.

    Sweet dreams everyone!

Out of a possible 10, I am giving this episode a 4.5. There were some good moments but on the whole I really didn’t like it. I found some of the logic and actions of several of the characters to be off putting and bizarre. I also think that when they take an episode “off” like this one–meaning that everyone suddenly stops looking for the Big Bad for no reason–it’s weird and I focus too much on wondering why there is no one looking for the Snow Queen.

It was clear from the start that I wasn’t going to enjoy this episode, and I’m not going to apologize for that. We all like different things, guys.  However, I will try to keep my heavy criticizes elsewhere

    What I Liked

–The opening scene was really cool and intriguing.

—Sven and the Walking Broomstick. Those two can go have a spin off. I’ll watch.

–The short scene between Henry and Regina was cute.

    Mixed Liked and Disliked

–Will Scarlet. Is he just going to be a funny guy? His story so far is getting drunk and being a thief. I want more of him. But he is quite comical.

–Rumple and Hook. On the one hand, I loved the final conversation between the two. On the other hand, I am incredibly weary of them destroying Rumple’s character and turning him into the ultimate evil or something else ridiculous after he’s done many heroic (and yes gray) things. The writers clearly don’t know what they are doing with him, so they are reverting to making him just “The Dark One.”

–The flashbacks were both fine and not. It’s really starting to annoy me that they are shoehorning in the Frozen cast every single episode. This is the fourth episode and the fourth flashback to feature at least one Frozen crew member. We get it. Frozen is big and  = money. But take a break from it in the flashbacks just once.

    Disliked

–Emma’s outfit. Don’t get me wrong. Jennifer Morrison looked good but that was NOT an Emma Swan dress. That was something Emma Swan would never wear on a date. Look at the Pilot and 312 for evidence. Emma’s not a girly girl. She doesn’t dress in lace and frippery. She likes tight jeans and plaids and boots. She looked like something out of the 1950s and Hook was the reformed bad boy in leather. I half expected them to burst into some cliche song halfway through.

–Hook wanting his hand back. Apparently only people with all their limbs can love properly. It’s rather insulting to people with disabilities, IMO

–Belle got one line. One. They keep promising more of her and then she only gets a few lines or is made to look like an idiot.

–Rumple still lying to Belle. It’s like the writers want me to stop shipping them.

–I can’t even begin to describe how angry I am and that Henry is going to work for Rumple under the false pretense of Neal. It has nothing to do with Neal. Nothing at all. He is playing Rumple and using the Neal card to do it. It leave a horrible taste in my mouth.

–Emma Swan is the worst sheriff known to man. So first she lets the criminal get away because she’s got her own personal stuff and doesn’t even call David to have him hunt down Will. THEN she decides that she is going to leave Will in jail because he interrupted her date. That’s not how the law works Emma.

–Snow and Charming waiting up. Dear lord. She’s 30. She has a 13yr old son. That was just….weird. And frankly Snow is coming off as a one of those overly possessive mother who is clingy and somewhat annoying. Which is just insulting to how amazing she was in S1.

This is the first Rumple-centric I have no desire to watch. And you guys know how much I love my Rumple. :|

Would Hook and Emma be shipped together if Hook WASN’T played by Colin O’Donoghue but by an older actor closer to the age of Hook’s traditional characterisation but the storyline and actions we’ve seen of Hook so far remain the same?

I will be the first to admit I’m not a fan of Colin’s portrayal of Hook. To this day I think he was miscast and would have been better as someone like Robin Hood or another rascal. I would have been much more accepting of Hook if he was older. To be a real threat or rival of Rumple’s he needed to be of the same sphere, a contemporary, a real rival. Colin never did that for me. People love Rumbelle despite Bobby Carlyle ticking off no boxes on a hearthrob scale. Yet, he had fangirls and a segment of fandom worshiping him. So I do think that Emma would have been shipped with Hook with a different actor, and it might have been interesting and exciting. However, I also think it would be a fringe ship like Golden Swan was, not anything major. Colin’s pretty face is a reason most people like him, because otherwise he has no story with legs to stand on.

Always thought that more interesting than a Love triangle bwt Neal and Emma, since they already had their problems, a Love triangle instead with Rumple, Belle and hook, paralleling the 1st triangle, Rumple, Milah and Hook.

Agree with jo, having a actor of the same age than RC would have been more wise, especially bc even the actress playing mIlah is much older than Colin, she is 10 years older or more and 6 years younger than RC, so a actor around those ages would have been more wise to make the 1st triangle.
