This is the first Rumple-centric I have no desire to watch. And you guys know how much I love my Rumple.  😐

Would Hook and Emma be shipped together if Hook WASN’T played by Colin O’Donoghue but by an older actor closer to the age of Hook’s traditional characterisation but the storyline and actions we’ve seen of Hook so far remain the same?

I will be the first to admit I’m not a fan of Colin’s portrayal of Hook.  To this day I think he was miscast and would have been better as someone like Robin Hood or another rascal.  I would have been much more accepting of Hook if he was older.  To be a real threat or rival of Rumple’s he needed to be of the same sphere, a contemporary, a real rival.  Colin never did that for me.  People love Rumbelle despite Bobby Carlyle ticking off no boxes on a hearthrob scale.  Yet, he had fangirls and a segment of fandom worshiping him.   So I do think that Emma would have been shipped with Hook with a different actor, and it might have been interesting and exciting.  However, I also think it would be a fringe ship like Golden Swan was, not anything major.  Colin’s pretty face is a reason most people like him, because otherwise he has no story with legs to stand on.

Can today and next week ends fast, bc really the epi from today and next week, will be bad in so many ways.

Actually, it all comes back to Malcolm. Malcolm abandoned Rumple which gave him the complex that the worst thing ever would be to grow up fatherless which made Rumple run away from the ogre war to prevent Baelfire having to suffer that same fate. Milah hated him which made her run away with Hook, forcing Rumple to raise Bae alone. BAe was the centre of Rumple’s world so Rumple became the dark one to prevent Bae being drafted and killed in the ogre war. Bae didn’t like Rumple being the dark one so he got a magic bean from the blue fairy to travel to a land without magic. Rumple, remembering what happened last time he used a magic bean, didn’t go through the portal with Bae so the two of them were separated across two different worlds. Rumple created the curse to reunite him with his son and roped in Regina to cast it etc etc.

Long story short, it’s Malcolm’s fault!

True, but if we want to put fault in someone, would be Malcom`s parents that didnt raise him with moral values. Either way all goes to Rumple family fault. In fact OUAt should change name to Once Upon a blame all parents for your crap live.

I love Neal for being Neal. I knew he was Baelfire from the moment we saw him and that he was Henry’s father…but if he had just been Neal, I’d have loved him all the same.

Depends. Neal left Emma not because he was the son of Rumpel (we didn’t even find that out until later) but because it was what he had to do. He loved her, cared for her, all that. But he had to leave to allow he to fulfill a destiny. So in my book, he didn’t do anything wrong and Adam already said he didn’t put emma in jail, he just didn’t show up. So yes, I would still ship them. Now if he was just some random guy who used her to take the fall for him, definetly not. Heck, even if he was Rumps son and he used her to take the fall for him, id probably say no. Luckily, that isn’t the case 🙂

Probably not. I know a lot of CS fans got all p’d off when we say they only ship them because Colin is hot, but for a lot of the General Audiences, the people who don’t look as deep into OUAT as we do here, they only like Hook because he is hot. If he were played by the actor who played George his actions toward Emma would be creepy. Hooks attractiveness gains him a lot of fans. Take that away and not many would care.

@Phee I think of a lot of ways they could get the show back on track too but I don’t think they will. Even if they dont bring Neal back, there are ways. But, in my head, all that really comes down to the final season. Thats why I still dont believe CS is endgame or that they will just end up together with eachother ALIVE. I think they’ll keep hook alive to keep the viewers watching but come final season when it doesn’t matter, they’ll kill him and Emma can go back to being that strong independent single mother princess Disney never had.

*shipper goggles on* Now when it comes to Neal, they could ALWAYS bring him back last minute and put him with Emma and Henry even if Hook is still in the picture. My OTP in TrueBlood was very similar. In the fourth season, Hoyt got his memory wiped by his vampire lover Jessica, got sent off to Alaska by her where he married a new woman and lived a happy life, and was no where to be seen or heard of for 3 seasons while Jessica had a few serious relationships and one that seemed to be endgame. They said Hoyt was never coming back and my otp was split and seemingly dead for THREE SEASONS!!! And then on the final season….he came back, wife and all, and he and Jessica got married. (his wife got with his bestfriend and Jessica’s boyfriend turned out to be gay so yeah >_>) So I have a bit of hope for Swanfire still locked up inside. If A&E are intelligent and if they believe in the story they were trying to tell in the first place they can make it work.

I think the show fosters the shipping war with the love triangle. They set up Neal and Emma as both still loving each other greatly. Then they threw Hook into the mix of that. They should have allowed Neal and Emma to go through their course (if this was planned all along) and then Hook. Or just never had Hook be a factor period. Leave shipping to the fans and the writers to the writing. But now the fans are writing and moving the story along not the writers.  Anyway, I firmly believe  there should have never ever been a love triangle between Hook and Neal period.  There should be one or the other but never both at the same time.
