ParticipantI still say that time in the EF 2.0 moves faster, although Regina should look older then. It would fit as to why Henry has aged when neither Regina, Hook, or Emma had when they visited him in A Pirate’s Life. Maybe the Realm was close to the Edge of Realms where Rumple and Belle were. It also explains Zelena’s line about Robin being 25 in this realm. I also think, due to Alice’s nymph blood, that is why she looks so young when she should be the same age as Emma (or older since I think time moves faster there). I would’ve rather been given this explanation rather than a throw away line about who Lily’s father is.

ParticipantRegina’s “redemption” has never worked for me. The rewriting of her character in Season 2 was the first major flaw in this show. They rewrote her again in Season 3 and i actually really like the Regina that they write now, but it is inconsistent and her arc is completely unearned. It makes no sense that she would be the queen of anything. Emma is the leader and has always been the leader.
Completely disagree with this. She was the written character on the show and I fail to see the inconsistencies you mention.
Also, do we get any points for still believing the Henry would be his undoing? FINALLY.

ParticipantI really wish I had time to re-watch season one again for this but for now here are a few of my favorite Once moments from memory in roughly chronological episode/time order (warning high ‘Skin Deep’ content).
Rumple’s kills Zoso and transforms into The Dark One as Zoso laughs, “I know how to recognize a desperate soul’ (which is later echoed by Rumple to Emma).
Rumple makes a deal for Belle, ‘congratulations on winning your little war!’.
Rumple’s quips/The chipped cup!
Belle falls into Rumple’s arms while trying to pull down the drapes.
Belle holding the rose that was Gaston and then she cuts off his feet (lower stem).
Rumple destroying things in the dark castle after hearing about Belle’s ‘death’ from that evil witch, Regina.
Emma arrests Mr. Gold.
Regina confronts a jailed Gold and makes him tell her his name…Rumplestiltskin!
Rumple comes to David on his farm and tells him about his twin brother. I just love that scene.
The twist reveal that Ruby/Red IS the werewolf stalking her village.
Cora’s death from Snow’s whispering ‘Cora‘ over the candle to Rumple’s sudden return to health return to heath (including the sweet phone call to amnesiac Belle) with that slightly open shirt as he stands over Cora like a boss.
The camera pan that reveals Malcolm becoming Peter Pan.
Rumple overcoming his fears to kill his father (and himself) to save the town.
The Rumbelle wedding vows!
Belle: Rumplestiltskin, this thing we have, it’s never been easy. I’ve – I’ve lost you so many times. I’ve lost you to darkness. To weakness and… And finally, to death. But now I realize – I realize that I have not spent my life losing you. I’ve spent my life finding you.Mr. Gold: Belle, when we met I wasn’t just unloved and unloving. I was an enemy of love. Love had only brought me pain. My walls were up. But you broke them down. You brought me home. You brought light into my life and chased away all the darkness. And I vow to you I will never forget the distance from who I was (places a ring on Belle’s finger) … and what I am. I owe more to you than I can ever say. How you can see the man behind the monster, I will never know.
Belle: But the monster is gone. And the man beneath him may be flawed, but we all are. And I love you for it. Sometimes the best book has the dustiest jacket. And sometimes the best tea cup is chipped.

ParticipantIt does matter though. It matters a great deal. In the early seasons, the time between realms was always consistent. It was only later when they started playing fast and loose with these things, pretending that the curse time didn’t happen in some places, messing up different character’s ages, all sorts of things. The inconsistencies in the story with the character’s behaviors and with the timeline is so bad that it is all i can think about. People don’t act like this. No one is the right age. There are three or four of everyone except Emma. They then expect us to care about young fake Henry when i just don’t because he is no one to me, just like fake Hook is no one to me. They may look like other characters, but they are no one. Emma not aging and having a baby at fifty-five doesn’t work for me.
It is all illogical and the very foundation of the story has completely fallen apart. Also, the writers said wait til the end of the season. It will all make sense if you just wait. This explanation is not even remotely a good reason as to why Emma, Snow, and Charming weren’t called and asked for help much earlier in the season. They could do some sort of multiple timeline thing like Fringe or Back to the Future, but they didn’t actually say that was what was happening. I wouldn’t want that to happen even a little bit. They just aren’t going to explain it. Here is a load of nonsense. Like it. That is what they said.

KeymasterMy guess (and it’s really only that!) is that it works like this?
1) Young Henry leaves SB at the age of 18 in the year 2018, lets say in September to match the S7 premiere date.
2) A lot of time time passes normally. Henry is now in his mid thirties when he meets Cinderella in the EF 2.0. When we see Regina, OG Hook, and Emma come to his rescue in 702, it is now Octoberish 2025-2027. Emma is having an extremely late-in-life pregnancy. This also explains why Robyn is so much older when Gothel transports her to the EF 2.0
3) Emma and OG Hook return to SB 2025-2027; this Emma and Hook are not the same ones we saw in the series finale. They are off living in the last 2020s unaware of everything that is happening.
4) The Curse is cast and it sends everyone in the EF 2.0 to HH and back in time, to pre-September 2018. It’s a random guess but let’s say six months prior, so March 2018.
5) Old Henry calls Young Henry on his graduation, which would roughly be May 2018.
6) Alice and Robyn travel via bean to SB in May of 2018. 2018Regina and 2018Emma are with recently graduated Henry on a road trip. Emma is not yet pregnant (and wont be for another 20 yrs). Baby Neal would now be about 5ish and Robyin 4ish.
7) Regina unites all the realms by bringing them to SB in May of 2018. Emma and Hook become parents much earlier than 2028 Emma did (no one has aged much from the time of unification to the time of coronation)
A big rub here is what happens when 2018!Regina and 2018!Emma come home to 2018!SB to discover that there’s a 2028!Regina, thirty year old Henry, young Wish Henry…..Are there now 2 Reginas in SB?

Participantbibliophile wrote: It spoils what could have been a beautiful moment between him and Regina when they never had a positive relationship before he died I get where you’re coming from with most of your Rumple post. Resetting him has always been their default position (sorta like with Emma). But I don’t agree with the quote above. They had a complicated relationship but it’s also been a father/daughter, student/mentor kind. They’ve used each other, threatened each other, but also helped and supported each other and think of each other as family even if it’s like, super complicated.
I actually agree with bibliophile although I did love that scene. Regina and Rumple had that relationship through season 3 but after that Regina was all about being in the hero club and did not have Rumple’s back once. She even went along in season 5 and stated that if Rumple dies then that was a chance they were going to have to take. Rumple tried to reach out to Regina several times and give her advice and she totally rejected him. Even in season 7 she made a throw away statement in the EF2 that he was just being Rumple. After Bae’s death Rumple was completely isolated from everyone but Belle and don’t get me wrong he was being a stinker most of the time, but even when he wasn’t Regina really did not have much if any relationship with him. I think they tried to show some relationship in HH but we did not see enough of it to satisfy. I am glad that deep down Regina did have some friendship/love for Rumple but really it did feel a little odd because we have not seen that kind of relationship in so long.

ParticipantSeason One:
Snow and Charming’s falling in love story. They were so cute!
Emma breaking the curse.
Season Two:
Finding out Bae and Neal were the same person.
Cora trying to steal Emma’s heart and it not working.
Season Three:
Emma and Hook’s kiss!
Regina breaking the curse.
Season Four:
Emma asking Hook out on a date (I can, and have, watched that scene over and over).
Evil Snow and Charming. Some of Ginnifer Goodwin’s best acting.
Season Five:
I know I’m in the minority, but I loved the whole Dark Swan and Dark Hook storyline. I still cry at Hook’s death.
James and Cruella in Hades was fun.
Season Six:
Hook’s second proposal to Emma.
The wedding/musical episode.
Season Seven:
The whole episode of Beauty, and I’m not a Rumbelle shipper at all.
Regina reading Henry’s letter.

ParticipantRegina and Robin were never epic; they were just boring. No version of Hook and Rumpel have ever been any sort of friend. I cannot believe they mentioned Lily’s father in passing. That was ridiculous.
Regina killed Henry’s version of Snow and Charming and stole our Emma, who is his mother, nothing she says should make that better. It was stupid that Henry was walking around with two swords. Just why. That conversation with fake Henry and Regina was not enough and did not work for me. There is no explanation for why he would be treating this Regina as his mother. He was just because. This was almost as bad as when our Henry said she’s my mom in Episode 201.
The war room scene was just bizarre without Emma in it. It was also weird for them to have Snow and Charming finally take the lead and for them to be talking all old school like they did in Season 1, but haven’t done in years. The big speech was awkward and just annoying for me at this point.
A scene where a parent was holding onto his child and saying he would never let them go, in this case fake Hook and Alice, only made me think of how a scene like that with Bae saying he would never let go of his son, while Rumpel watched would have made so much more sense.
Rumpel being upset that he lost his mortality, which just happened randomly out of nowhere did not make sense. Rumpel has been trying to get rid of his mortality for years. At least Rumpel realized that you do what is right because it is right at the end, even if this whole show was written with the characters doing right to get something out of it. Rumpel giving his heart to a man, so that he could be with his child again would have made so much more sense with Bae and Henry.
The whole all the realms being connected to Storybrooke should have happened at the end of Season 3. Too little too late. Though the heart thing was a stupid way of doing it.
The whole ball thing was bizarre. Emma’s weird arrival was bizarre. At least, Regina wanted Emma to be there. What is the explanation for where the Regina that was in Storybrooke is at? How does Henry leave and meet Ella if they have changed everything? How is baby Neal that age? Our Emma is actually young Henry’s mother because her character is both our Emma and wish Emma because there was never a second Emma? Are there three Henry’s and three Reginas and another Rumpel in town? There is just no explanation for any of this and the plot is just completely incoherent in every way. I cannot believe how bad that all was. It was worse then i ever thought they would do.
Regina’s “redemption” has never worked for me.
I am not a fan of Rumpel, but his character arc was the most coherent in the show. It wasn’t perfect, but at least you can see his growth and feel the connection to how his character used to be. That was the only thing reasonable about this episode. That and i liked that they showed a dream catcher even though they failed to mention Bae in the afterlife.

KeymasterNot enough Emma. Too much Regina.
That’s out of the writers hands, though. If JMo told them she’d come back for one day of filming–and one day only–it doesn’t actually amount to much in TV time. Josh and Ginny filmed for two or three days and it was still only two full scenes for them.
