ModeratorAnd the added element of Rumple’s manipulations; she wouldn’t be the Savior, at least not in the way S1 understood her and the way Emma talks about herself, without Rumple putting a drop of that TL potion on the curse. She’s not just the Savior because she’s a good person, it’s her entire makeup. She’s still True Love Incarnate and I feel like they can’t possibly cut that away without undermining everything they’ve set up about Emma.
Yeah. I think the way it works is that both Emma and Aladdin had the requirements that deemed them worthy of Saviorhood, but they needed a catalyst to awaken their Savior powers. With Emma it was the dash of true love potion on the curse, and with Aladdin it was the Diamond in the Rough.

ModeratorGiven that Rumple played a HUGE part in making Emma the Savior, you’d think he’d have more to do this season besides slowly destroy his romantic relationship.
Wouldn’t this storyline be a golden opportunity to actually explore how Rumple found out about Saviors? We know that Emma became the Savior as a result of Rumple including a dash of her parents’ true love with the Dark Curse, but there’s certainly more that could be told. We know how he went about doing it, but we don’t know what led him to that conclusion.

KeymasterThe bad and the good side.. in Emma it is Dark Swan=bad and Savior=good.
Well, that was basically S5 with the Dark Swan and even then she was supremely underwhelming as the DarkSwanSavior. I don’t see them going down this path because it isn’t about Emma’s good and bad side like it is with Regina. It’s about her Savior side and the side that wants to be normal.

Participantwhich part of Emma–Savior or non Savior–do we see getting stabbed? Emma kills the Savior side of her (the one that is constantly shaking) and her “non Savior” side lives. Except then Emma realizes she needs to be the Savior, that it’s part of her identity and the second half of S6 is about re-Savior-ing Emma.Lol this is confusing.. Hmmm.. The way I see it is. There are gonna be two sides to Emma that we are gonna see on the show. The bad and the good side.. in Emma it is Dark Swan=bad and Savior=good. Like there are two sides to Regina/EQ, to Jekyll/Hyde and now Aladin- Bad Aladin/Savior Aladin.
But the vision is only one possible outcome of the future.. if Emma doesnt use the shears, she wont need to be re-Savior-ed. And if she does use them, she will be destined to die, or the savior part of her will be.
edited in: Okay I think you were probably saying the same thing there, I just got confused. llol 🙂

KeymasterShe is seeing the outcome of what will happen if she uses the shears and severs herself from her “Savior Emma side”
Yes, though this begs the question, which part of Emma–Savior or non Savior–do we see getting stabbed? Emma kills the Savior side of her (the one that is constantly shaking) and her “non Savior” side lives. Except then Emma realizes she needs to be the Savior, that it’s part of her identity and the second half of S6 is about re-Savior-ing Emma.

ParticipantTheory::
Emma’s visions are only the “possible” future. She is seeing the outcome of what will happen if she uses the shears and severs herself from her “Savior Emma side”
This is a parallel to Regina/Evil Queen. What happens is that by severing themselves, they dont get rid of any sides, they only bring their inner fights to the outside world.
What Emma sees in her visions are Dark Emma killing Savior Emma (like we have sort of already theorised) It was said in the episode, that the Savior always dies… Hmmm so maybe thats what always will happen if you use the shears.
This is therefor allso what happened to Aladin. The dead corpse in the crypt (which also had the scarab) was dead “Savior Aladin” and the Aladin who is still walking around, is Dark/bad/some-type-of-evil Aladin.

KeymasterRumple except in (questionable) mention is a bit sad. I wish they’d actually try to integrate him into the main story in some capacity. It seems like his story is now completely divorced from the rest of the crew at this point.

ParticipantThis episode, to me, felt like the epitome of filler. There’s something about this season that feels like it doesn’t quite gel. Often individual scenes and vignettes are quite good, but the way they come together is more “mystery leftovers salad” than an actual harmonious dish

Liked
The Evil Sisters bonding and gossiping over mani/pedis. With those ridiculous turbans. It was sort of delightful and absurd, especially with that lumberjack character as one of the salon workers. Ah, Mills women, you gotta love ’em, terrors that they are.
I actually didn’t mind Jasmine/Aladdin, but I thought their story was a bit flat. I did appreciate the one nod to the horrid, horrid class politics on this show — as in, the kingdom’s been suffering for a while, welcome to the 99%, lady. That was actually nice. At least they acknowledge that the nobility on this show are malignantly clueless narcissists, for the most part. And it makes me feel a lot more sympathetic towards Aladdin’s decision to not be a savior. Like, go fix your social justice problem before you go and look for a populist hero to sacrifice himself and distract the peasants from the bad schools and the unaffordable healthcare 😉 Also, hello Snow and the rest of the scooby gang.
Emma finally fessing up, with a little help from her friend “Evil!Archie”

I can do without Rumbelle, but no Rumple except in (questionable) mention is a bit sad. I wish they’d actually try to integrate him into the main story in some capacity. It seems like his story is now completely divorced from the rest of the crew at this point.
Lets welcome the new addition to the ever expanding MacGuffin clan: The Golden Shears! They can sit over there, right by that mushroom.
Henry’s dynamic with Emma doesn’t really work for me. It’s like they’re not actually allowing Henry to grow up, and still write him exactly as they did when he was 10. The lack of complexity feels extremely awkward, and they need to address it somehow. And Emma’s focus hasn’t been on Henry — it’s been (and still is) on Hook. Therefore those supposedly touching scenes with Henry fall a bit flat because, lets face it, there’s not much emotional investment that translates on screen. Yes, the dialogue in that scene where Emma says that Henry’s the real magic in her life is lovely. But it needs to be backed up by real emotional weight, and I don’t think we’ve seen that work put into the show over the last few seasons to be able to buy it.

KeymasterThe shears themselves raise a question about the true source of Emma’s magic. Is she magical because she is the Savior or is it from her being a product of true love?
And the added element of Rumple’s manipulations; she wouldn’t be the Savior, at least not in the way S1 understood her and the way Emma talks about herself, without Rumple putting a drop of that TL potion on the curse.
