EMMA CONSIDERS TAKING HER RELATIONSHIP WITH HOOK TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Is the next level telling Hook the truth? Cause…that’s not a normal level in any relationship, lol.

Snow helps Dr. Jekyll find a suitable laboratory for his work.

Snow spends the episode showing Dr Jekyll the sights. Tourism!

. In flashback, Cinderella attends a ball and meets her prince on “Once Upon a Time

Hmmm. But this doesn’t sound like we’re gonna learn where Thomas went after the deal with Rumple was broken

David Anders as Dr. Whale/Dr. Frankenstein

Dr. Frankenstein and Dr Jekyll meet to discuss laboratories. Penny Dreadful called; they want their idea back. (cries. RIP beautiful show)

Mekenna Melvin as Clorinda, Goldie Hoffman as Tisbe

Are those the step sisters? Neither of them are named Anastasia so maybe there’s #hope that Ana is the third step sister?? I know I know, I’m clinging to hope here. Also, what odd names! I thought they were Anastasia and Drusilla.

    Jarod Joseph as Gus

    Really?!

    How surprising

Emma’s own villain could very well be herself.

Yes, exactly. Emma has always been her own worst enemy. It’s not about her “dark” vs “light” self but rather the Savior vs Non-Savior Emma. To be fair, I’m not thrilled about the idea of Savior Emma killing off Non-Savior Emma because that’s basically the same as Regina killing the EQ–it doesn’t work that way because Regina will always be the EQ but it’s about temperament and restraint. For Emma, she’ll always have that “orphan” part of her, but it’s about accepting herself and those who love her and her place among them.

Dark Hook said something back in “Broken Heart” that ties in with the theory here about the villain being Emma’s non-savior self:

Hook: Well, you see, that’s your problem, Swan. You’re so afraid of losing the people that you love that you push them away. And that’s why you’ll always be an orphan. You don’t need some villain swooping in to destroy your happiness. You do that quite well all on your own.

Now while this was a terrible thing to say to her, there could still be some harsh truthness to it. Emma’s own villain could very well be herself.

See I feel like if it end up being Rumple who killed Charming’s father, that would cause a ton if internal strife.  It brings Charming into the equation and he specifically has never had any huge quarrels with Rumple on a personal level.  And obviously since it has to do with Charming, Snow would get brought into it as well.  It would be interesting if many of these untold stories with the main characters revolved around Rumple secretly doing something.  Then every turns on Rumple.   But like, to tear each other apart, man there better be some seriously secret stuff other than Emma’s premonition and Charming’s Dad.

Ther’es obviously an untold story with Charming’s father.  But other than that…geez who knows.  This is just a way for the writers to justify tell us new information on all these characters and calling it an “untold story.”  It’s basically fotgotten character island land and new stories for main characters land.  I hope they actually reveal some shocking stuff and this isn’t just all build up from the EQ.  Please don’t be like season 5a when Emma said everyone would pay for what they did to her in Camelot.

Uhhhhhhh I want it to be Blue so bad.  Like so incredibly bad.  A classic villain hiding in the shadows but in plain site this whole time.  It’s almost too good to not write it in, even if it wasn’t planned.

But I’m going to stick with it being Rumple.  Second place vote goes to Jafar.  I think this EQ thing is a red herring.  They wouldn’t show us the answer this early.  It’s meant to throw us off.  And Emma having to kill herself just seems so corny for my liking.  I believe it was Jafar (or the Oracle) who said every Savior has that villain who is their arch nemesis.  Maybe that arch nemesis is herself, but I have always felt like it’s Emma and Rumple: Two powerhouses who up until this point, really have not had many physical magic quarrels, if any.  Lot of chatter but to me it always felt they were saving the actual fighting for the end game.  It would be quite poetic honestly.  Emma isn’t going to die…she’s going to kill the person under the hood.  I think Rumple will die this season, and it would be pretty poetic if the person Rumple basically created (with the help of Snowing) to help find his son, ends up terminating him before he can officially “meet” his new son.

I’m also betting on it being Rumple.  Dark horse is Jafar.  But I’m going to continue with the theory that it’s Rumple behind the cloak in Emma’s dream so this season they are slowly going to make Rumple into the really evil person they love to make him out to be so they can then kill him.  It starts with finding out it was him who actually murdered David’s father.

    Overall:  6.5/10

This was a slight tick down for me from the premiere but there were some good moments and not so good moments.  Some great character moments with Regina and the EQ, the Charmings and Regina, Emma and Archie, but this episode for me, was bogged down with lack luster flashbacks.  But everything in present-day storybrooke for the most part was pretty great.  But with no Mr. Hyde, this was all about the EQ.  I just hope they both can work together or something.  I’d rather that then see Zelena relapse.

    Liked:

    – Everything that is the EQ.  Lana Parrilla is eating it up.  Her costumes were great, her sing songy thing with Regina and the Charmings.  Her interaction with Zelena and then Henry.  All great.  Even the awkward scene with Rumple was incredibly well acted by both Lana and Robert.

    – Hook apologizing to Belle.  It was sincere.  But if I’m Belle, I’m not sure I’d want to stay in the underbelly’s of a ship belonging to a man who tricked me, and tried to kill me who’s also a rival of my current husband, and likely staying in one of Milah’s pirate sex slave dungeons.

    – I like the idea of everyone having some secrets that need to be panned out and that the EQ is just going to watch them eat each other.

    – Ok, who killed Charming’s father.  My bet is on Jafar or Rumple.  But this is already making David interesting again.

    Mixed:

    – I love Archie being back but I feel like Emma really needs to at least tell her parents about what she saw.  I get she thinks it’s Regina behind the cloak so fine, don’t tell her.  But tell your parents.  Tell Hook.

    – EQ seducing Rumple.  Well acted and creepy as all hell, but the EQ never had that kind of relationship with Rumple so I reject the notion that she would do that.

    – Rumple has a key to another land?  Man, portals just are so easy now.  It’s just frustrating when for 3 seasons you make it out to be this impossibly challenging thing to do and now it looks so easy.

    – As much as I’d like to see EQ and Zelena team up, Zelena has come too far to revert back to her old ways.  I sincerely hope she’s just playing with the EQ to get her to trust her only to help Regina defeat her in the end.

    – The fight with the Count was good.  And something about Regina fighting in her mayor attire with a sword just was fun to watch.  Her putting her life on the line to save her family.  She has come a long way.  But please, don’t give me this “taste of darkness” bull again.  She had to kill the Count.  She had no choice.  If this somehow spirals her down the path of Evil, I’m going to hurl.

    Disliked:

    –  The handmaiden?  Really?  I couldn’t help myself from laughing uncontrollably at the screen.  Like that was so bad for so many reasons.

    – The Count’s flashbacks.  It’s basically a rehashing of the hunter (graham).  EQ hires someone to kill Snow White.  They can’t go through with it.  Flashbacks were pretty lame.

    – The most underrated character on the show wasn’t in tonight’s episode.  Mr. Hyde takes over Storybrooke for one half episode, and then gets thrown into lock up.  I really hope this isn’t going to be like Arthur who starts out promising and then gets tossed aside until they are ready to kill him off.  I’m hoping he has a much bigger connection to Jafar.  He did know about the Oracle and to follow the red bird so if the Oracle is in fact Jafar, then Mr. Hyde knows more than he’s letting on.

I think it’ll be Emma’s non-saviour side, but I don’t want it to be. We dealt with Emma’s dark side last season. It was handled very poorly, but it’s done now and I don’t want to revisit it.

    Yup, that.

If it turns out to be the Blue Fairy in the hood, I will laugh out loud with glee.

That’s the second ep where I actually enjoyed a good chunk of it. And this time it was a Hook moment that was one of my highlights. Who am I and what have I done with the real me?! LOL

Hook’s sincere apology, and self awareness that he’s really NOT actually a redeemed hero just yet was quite surprising and greatly appreciated! I felt like Belle’s side of the conversation let the scene down a bit though, because it came off like she was already kinda like “bygones” as far as the attempted murder.

The flirting between Rumple and EQ was really quite squicky. But Bobby and Lana both nailed the delivery of the lines. So I’m a bit unsure how I feel about that whole hot mess. I can almost rationalise EQ coming onto him in SB, because without the Regina side in her any more, EQ just has ZERO chill, there’s no conscience whatsoever to hold her back from saying or doing anything innapropriate. Rumple being all up on her in the flashback was quite unsettling, given the almost paternal relationship they’ve set up, and the fact that he also lusted after her mother. *shudder*

Bobby was having so much fun in those flashback scenes, and was a delight! I’m not in the camp who thinks the show is ending this season, but I do think Rumple will die. Bobby could still sign on to come back now and again for flashbacks, and that way he’d get to play the version of the character that he quite clearly revels in playing.

Please keep Archie in every ep, I didn’t even realise how much I’ve missed him. <3

The guy who played the Count, he was great. Maybe the best single ep guest star they’ve ever had? He engaged me in the flashbacks, so they were more than just an *insert yet another time EQ tried to kill Snow and Charming* bit that would typically feel totally shoehorned in. And in the present day he actually kicked me square in the feels in the scene where he’d been fighting Snowing and saying that he didn’t want it to be this way, but he couldn’t help it. I actually felt some desperation from him and felt sorry for him, so well played, whatever that actor’s name was.

The CGI rendered rooms seemed to be done slightly better? But whenever there was a shot that had both Regina and EQ in and they were facing each other, the eyelines were just a little bit off and it took me out of the moment, which is a shame because Lana was nailing every line in this ep.

WHAT were those shoes that Regina was wearing though? Just…do we really think that Regina Mills would be seen dead in those horrible shoes? And what even with Emma’s wardrobe…was that white top supposed to be referencing swan wings or something?

EQ sing-songing like Rumple the “Tear yourselves apart”….I’m living for this!

That was the best moment of the ep for me. Lana’s delivery was perfection and made me chuckle.

Snow and Charming were wandering around with their weapons for no reason last episode, but were conveniently unarmed when the Count attacked them.

    OMG you’re so right. *facepalm*
