ParticipantWill TLK work on Emma though?
I was actually wondering if Emma could save herself, since she does embody true tove, the most powerful magic of all….Shouldn’t that count for something? I would’ve thought it meant she couldn’t even be cursed, because her own magic, which is the power of true love, could break any curse. But then, hey, the writers seem not to acknowledge that anymore, seeing how they didn’t even attempt to have Belle kiss Rumple as he lay dying on the floor. Instead, they introduced plot device #102.

Imagine the story potential if they didn’t kill Neal and then having Emma become the Dark One to protect him, just like his father did.

ParticipantI think he’ll still have that selfish/greedy streak in him, though.
Having a selfish/greedy streak is one thing. Even Regina still flirts with the darkness and greedy nature herself. But it’s acting on those inner tendencies that will drive me up a wall if they make him power hungry devil man again.
I think the show has made a definite distinction between Regina’s character and Rumple’s regarding their ability to redeem themselves.

KeymasterIf Rumple wakes up from his magically induced hat sucking coma and all he wants to do is regain all his power, I am 100% done with his character. He CANT DO THIS again; not after his talk with Belle on the pawn shop floor.
It would be consistent with everything he’s done in the past. He’s chosen power over his son, he’s chosen power over his true love. When he was living in New York without power, the only thing he did was plot to get his power back. He definitely does not do well without power.
So everyone gets character development except Rumple? He doesn’t get to have breakthroughs like the one he seemed on the verge of in the pawn shop in 422 and then go straight back to “all the power!” the next moment without me calling shenanigans on the writers. It’s time. They have written themselves into a corner with him and his development in S4 (in that he became something that was Not!Rumple because while he’s always wanted power he has always had a very human side with his desire for love and family and acceptance) and if they just take him further down then there is no coming back. Either they want to redeem him and make him human and interesting or they want their cliche black hat for no other reason than they find goodness boring (see: Snow White and Prince Charming post S1)

ParticipantRemoving the “Dark One” from Rumple, I’m guessing, only resets him to his previous form. He will be the weak coward, hungry for power, and willing to do all the wrong things to get power. I think he will attempt to get the dagger and kill Emma with it, thus regaining his powers as the “Dark One”.
I expect him to struggle. Addicts always struggle, you can’t go clean overnight; that’s just not realistic.
But…
If Rumple wakes up from his magically induced hat sucking coma and all he wants to do is regain all his power, I am 100% done with his character. He CANT DO THIS again; not after his talk with Belle on the pawn shop floor.
I’m with @rumplesgirl. Him trying to steal his power back from Emma would be ridiculous. I was done with his character a long time ago, but this would further cement my hatred for him.
I think he’ll still have that selfish/greedy streak in him, though.

ParticipantI could only see that happening if his heart returns to a strong enough form to take on the darkness again AND he believes it’s necessary to protect Belle/Henry from Emma. He took on the DO powers to protect Baelfire, not because he was hungry for power. He was desperate, afraid, and, he believed, powerless before, and he’s since sought to escape ever going back to that state–but the only time we’ve seen him make a grab for power just to have the power is with the Hat in 4A (and, knowing how close his heart was to going dark, it’s arguable that he believed it was necessary to protect Belle and Henry as well as himself…but his speech at the town line suggested otherwise. However, it was also an opportunity that the show indicated ANY Dark One would be tempted by, and his actions were more opportunistic than carefully orchestrated).
His attempt with the author was an attempt to escape the price of his power…but he was also trying to escape having the DO unleashed. He tethered it for centuries by tying himself to the deals he made, and I’ve believed since S1 that this was an intentional move to keep himself in check as well as to escape part of the price of his magic (and build up his power and influence). We have seen him use other means to keep himself in check, like not healing his leg once he had magic in Storybrooke–he kept the limp until he needed to be free of it to save Henry, because it was a link to his son, a reminder of why he had done all the things he’d done.

ParticipantEven as the Dark One, Rumple could still choose to do good, heroic things. My theory is that his original human weakness caused his evil, not any external dark force. I think Emma will be a different “Dark One” than Rumple. Don’t get me wrong. I still think she will be more quick to act on her dark impulses. She will probably kill. But being heroic to start with, I think she will be more likely to choose the heroic path.

Keymaster1) I don’t understand why the AU ”never happened” just because it was not in the book. The characters collectively remembered what happened, so therefore it all did happen but just wasn’t recorded…surely???
I honestly don’t have an answer for this one and it’s been bothering me as well. And it was recorded in Isaac’s book; and even when Regina threw it into the fire in part one, nothing changed. It’s not like destroying the book ended the AU, unless that was because in our world there still would have been published copies of “Heroes and Villains.” (maybe?)
Which brings up another question: what about the people in our world who’s memories they likewise altered with Isaac’s rewrite. You have fans, the publishing company, reviewers, ect. It’s the equivalent of Daniel, Matt and I running this joint but waking up one morning with only memories of ONCE Podcast Forums …but the forums themselves not existing or being real. It doesn’t jive.
2) Why didn’t Belle and Rumple’s kiss not send everyone back to the original reality? Why did it have to be only Regina’s and Robin’s that could do that?
I’m assuming that is because the AU was Rumple’s happy ending so he couldn’t have it all undone with a kiss from Belle, something that would have been happening frequently in the AU. Rumple and Isaac wrote it so that Regina and Robin never met and thus the AU could play out. What Rumple and Isaac didn’t count on was Henry.
(ps; what was Rumple’s plan for Henry???? Last season he wanted to take Henry with him and Belle when Ingrid was about to cast her curse but this season he’s content to let Henry remain alone in SB?)
3) Why did it have to be a (white?) savior’s blood that Henry needed in the AU to fix everything?
Again, no idea outside of “magic” for the sake of emotional feelings. Emma broke the first curse; they wanted Regina to break this one to parallel 122. I also disagree with the idea that Isaac should have been able to fundamentally alter Emma’s make up. He left her memories in tact but managed to rob her of her Saviorhood…that doesn’t make much sense.

ParticipantYup, the Apprentice was just randomly lying there next to Emma in the street.
They were all laying where they were when the Author wrote ‘The End.” The Apprentice was walking to Gold’s show with Regina and Emma.

ParticipantAt the end the Apprentice was with Regina and Emma laying in the street. Where did he come from?
…was he? I thought it was just Regina, Robin, Snowing, and Hook
Yup, the Apprentice was just randomly lying there next to Emma in the street.
