I recently started my own rewatch and I had the same reaction to that line. Of course, it may also have been put in to help us understand very early in the show that Henry and Emma have no fairy tale counterparts. There is a lot of foreshadowing in those early episodes. From the very first scene in which Charming arrives at Snow White’s glass coffin and Doc speaks the same words, “You’re too late”, which Mother Superior will say to Emma when she arrives at Henry’s bedside in the finale to the clock ticking to 8:15 in both episodes, I was impressed how tightly interwoven the pilot is with the later episodes.

I missed the first few episodes of the online group rewatch so I don’t know if this was discussed in the chat but there is one scene in the pilot that confused me at the time and still does. When Emma steps out of her car upon first arriving in Storybrooke, there is a short on the power line in the background just as she slams the car door (you can see a picture of it at http://www.onceuponatimespace.com/pilotComment.html ). It was such a noticeable special effects shot I still wonder why they put it in. I don’t think it was ever explained during the season. Did they just add it for a dramatic effect to accompany the door slam or will it turn out to have some significance? I’m guessing it must be there for a reason. What does everyone else think?

I’ve been absent from the board for quite a while, and I think this is just the thread for me to get back into things 😆 Here’s my answers! Neat idea by the way.

1. The character you first fell in love with…
Probably Snow White or even Regina. I like strong female characters, and if they are a villain too (like Regina) even better.

2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now…
Most certainly Rumplestiltskin. Though, I have to admit, it took me until “Skin Deep” to really form an attachment to him.

3. The character everyone else loves that you don’t…
Oh, that’s tough. I think I’ll have to go with Maelficient (I think I totally just destroyed that spelling). Just don’t get her appeal. I think it’s just the hair and clothing that I don’t really like and I just don’t take her seriously as a villain.

4. The character you love, but everyone else hates…
Can I say David? Does he count? A lot of people love Prince Charming and absolutely despise poor David. Yeah, he’s done some majorly stupid stuff, but Regina is partially to blame. The guy tries, haha!

5. The character you used to love, but don’t any longer…
Hmmm…really don’t think I feel this way about any character. Not now anyway. Maybe as the show goes through various more seasons, my opinion could change depending on character arcs.

6. The character you would totallly smooch…
No…I just can’t…it’s a four way tie between Prince Charming, Jefferson, Graham, and August.

7. The character you’d want to be like…
I wish I could be like Snow White.

8. The character you’d like to slap…
Sidney…because of his blind devotion to Regina.

9. A pairing that you love…
Snow/Charming all the way for me, with Rumple/Belle a very close second.

10. A pairing that you despise…
I have nothing against slash or femme-slash, but the Emma/Regina think just doesn’t do anything for me.

Rumple, no question. He’s a sneaky villain, but there is this redeeming trait about him that makes him very interesting. I loved him from the start.

2. The character you never expected to love as much as you do now…
Henry. At first he seemed an annoying little kid, but now I truly admire his courage and determination.

3. The character everyone else loves that you don’t…
Belle. I swear to God, I cannot see what people see in her. She seems rather ordinary to me.

4. The character you love, but everyone else hates…
August. I find him so intersting and so well written, that I really don’t understand why so many people hate him. He made a lot of mistakes, and acted in a selfish way quite a few times, but I truly believe that, at this point, he really regrets his actions and wants to redeem himself. Him not being perfect is what makes him so interesting for me.

5. The character you used to love, but don’t any longer…
Archie/Jiminy. They created a very interesting story arc for him, but then he just disappeared and I completely lost interest in him. I hope that changes.

6. The character you would totallly smooch…
Rumple/Gold. He’s not overwhelmingly beautiful, but he is incredibly charming.

7. The character you’d want to be like…
Emma. She’s tough, strong and independent. Exactly the kind of woman I aim to be.

8. The character you’d like to slap…
Cinderella. She’s just so boring!

9. A pairing that you love…
Charming and Snow. The reason why I love them, is because they are partners in the truest sense of the word. They fight side by side, as equals, and she’s just as capable as he is. I love the couple’s dynamics.

10. A pairing that you despise…
I can’t really say that I despise them but… Rumbelle. I just don’t find them interesting. At all.

This has to be one of my favorite episodes!

Everything in both worlds were connected. My favorite bits were with Emma and Jefferson–I love the suspense and tension between the two of them. I don’t think it is romantic–he was simply desperate for her to make his hat, and she wanted to herself and Mary Margaret to be free. But the frustration, desperation, anger, and fear that they both felt was just everywhere–their faces, voices, and the way they carried themselves. Another favorite would have to be when the Evil Queen betrays Jefferson–she does feel guilty for it, but she refuses to acknowledge it, and even attacks him back to make him feel guilt for leaving his daughter in the first place. Also, I love the scene with Mary Margaret and Emma–these two are so great together. Emma confesses how she cares about Mary Margaret, and you can tell it is mutual. Lastly, I love when we see Jefferson become the Mad Hatter–Sebastion Stan should be a regular. His characer was interesting, sympathetic, dark, and truly insane.

The thing that did surprise me at first was when Emma said she believed–that was a shock, until she knocked him out. Also, a lot of people pointed out that Jefferson went about the wrong way of convincing Emma–drugging her, tying her and Mary MArgaret up, pointing the gun, etc. And I obviously agree with all that, but if there is a defense to be made, he is mad–he is not going to approach the situation a normal way.

Have been thinking some more about who Michael Raymond-James could potentially be playing. Have come to the conclusion that there are only 2 characters whose names would give away too much if revealed in a casting spoiler: Baelfire (coz obviously everyone’s waiting for him to be announced) and Peter (coz they’ve made no secret that Hook is coming, so it’s reasonable to assume that Peter Pan will be too). I know we’re waiting for a Jack to be cast as well, but that wouldn’t be something they’d feel the need to keep top secret, I wouldn’t think, despite the fact that Jack could potentially be Bae, but revealing a casting for Jack wouldn’t confirm or deny that theory.

Anyway, despite the fact that Bae is the casting that all the fans are anticipating the most, I reckon the reveal of him as Peter would be even bigger, because Peter Pan didn’t age, so if the OUAT version of him looks like this guy, that could give away something huge about how they’re planning on tweaking that story. Add it to the fact that his casting announcement came at the same time as the casting for Hook, and I’m almost willing to put money on the fact that he’s gonna be a grown up Peter Pan.

Also, the more I look at pics of him, the more I reckon he looks like he could be Henry’s father. Though I confess that I may be viewing his pics with a biased eye, because of my theory that Peter Pan stayed in our world and aged and hooked up with Emma.

I don’t really know if Regina was behind Emma’s and Snow’s disappearance, but it seems likely. I don’t know if they land in Wonderland, but I believe they did because I think Cora is the Queen of Hearts there. I think Wonderland ties in with the “first” episode only because Barbara Hershey and Bailee Madison were nearby. I just hope that Emma and Snow aren’t trapped their for more than one episode.

We had a double ep on TV here tonight, Hat Trick followed by Stable Boy, so I’ve got my Cora = QoH theory on the brain right now. I’m wondering if in 2×02 we’ll see the growing animosity between Regina and YoungSnow, and also between Regina and Cora. Then we’ll see Regina reach her breaking point with her mother and banish her to Wonderland. Cora was the one who was all about the marriage for status and power. Regina wasn’t interested in that stuff. So I’m envisioning Cora being really overbearing, trying to convince Regina to settle into her new role as Queen, and then eventually Regina snaps and is all, “YOU’RE the one who wanted this! So if you wanna be royalty so much, I can help you with that!” Then she sends her off to be trapped in Wonderland where she’ll become Queen of Hearts.

Showing us a bit of Wonderland, would tie in nicely if Jefferson’s realm jumping capabilities are also potentially going to be a plot point early on.

As for where Emma and Snow go, (assuming they do in fact go somewhere), it could be Wonderland, OR it could be Neverland, and maybe when they find a way back to SB, that’s how and when Hook sneaks into town as well by the same means. Perhaps?

First Episode: I think this is the episode that is being filmed now. While it would make sense to be an Emma episode right off the bat, I’m guessing it will be a Snowing episode mostly, because the spoilers about Prince Phillip and Aurora sound a little bit like Snowing’s story. Plus, I’m guessing Mulan being involved will tie in with the take back the kingdom line.

I’m still sticking with this being a Sleeping Beauty ep, and if it is, then it should be set earlier in time than the taking back of the kingdom storyline, because they established that Maleficent was younger when the Sleeping Beauty story went down. In that case, I wouldn’t expect to see Snowing stuff in the FTL flashbacks.

On the one hand, it could be seen as an odd choice for them to not pick up in FTL right where they left off, with a significant storyline about to kick off. But on the other hand, maybe it’d be overwhelming to have focus on Snowing in FTL at the same time as Snowing are coming back together in SB? Their stuff in SB won’t be MM/David, it’ll be Snow/Charming, they’ll in effect be re-establishing the characters we already know in a whole new light, because each of them are now two characters merged into one. It may be easer to keep the focus on that happening in SB, if the FTL storyline doesn’t feature them at all. But the Sleeping Beauty storyline could still be shown to have parallels to what’s happening in SB, because everyone is “waking up” from a curse.

Second Episode: I think this is a Regina episode since I think this is the episode that Barbara Hershey and Bailee Madison are going to be in. I don’t know if they were trying to throw off fans of the show by making it seem like this episode was the first episode or if it had something to do with the availability of someone like Barbara Hershey or Sebastian Stan.

I’m guessing it was more of a scheduling thing.

Third Episode: If the first episode is a Snowing episode, then I think this will be an Emma episode, or vice versa. All I have to go by is the casting call for Lancelot, but based on this,

The casting call described him as “Male, African-American, British accent, late 20s to early 30s. A sword-for-hire, he’s one of the most dangerous men in Fairy Tale Land, because he’s a man with nothing to lose. In his tragic past, he was torn from his true love and banished from the king and country he served. Though he says he now serves only himself and his fee, he can’t help but be guided by his sense of honor, the memory of the man he once was and his true nobility.

I think it might be an Emma-centric episode because she’s similar to Lancelot in that she’s a “gun-for-hire” in some respects, certainly one of the most dangerous women in Storybrooke, and did have nothing to lose at one point. Of course, there’s her tragic past that she has where she was sent away from her world to protect her, which isn’t the same as being banished, but to her low esteem self she probably won’t be really ready to accept that her parents were trying to protect her yet.

Nice parallels between Lancelot and Emma. Hadn’t thought about that.

We haven’t had any info about what ep Lancelot is in yet, have we? But I think ep 3 would make sense. He’s obviously going to be early on if they’ve already cast him, and as far as we know he’s not in 1, 2 or 4. His character sounds like someone they would have recruited in the battle for the kingdom, and going with my theories about the flashbacks for 1 & 2, by 3 they’d be wanting to get back to that storyline. I’m not entirely convinced he’s gonna survive in FTL, but with those similarities to Emma’s character, his deeds in flashbacks could be tied to present day events through Emma, if he doesn’t survive.

Then again, maybe this ep will be Mulan? She possibly helped with the taking back of the kingdom as well, and if there’s some realm jumping talk in eps 1 and 2, and if she came from another realm, (considering there was an Asian looking door in the hat), then they might wanna keep the theme going by introducing her at that point.

Guess we’ll find out soon enough who’ll be in ep 3 once they start shooting it and info leaks out.

Fourth Episode: This has to be a Rumple-centric episode based on casting calls for Beaman, which makes me think that it’s even more likely that Milha has got to be Rumple’s ex and Bae’s mom since this should be a Rumple-centric episode.

Yep, I think we’ll see a backstory with Rumple, Milha and Beaman, which will lead into the Hook storyline.

I love the way Snow White is reaching out for and hugging Red Riding Hood. Then Snow White hugs Emma and Prince Charming holds Henry close. Emma looks so awkward with it all–it is really not going to be easy for her to handle this.

EMMA … I loved the introduction of her character and her bad aXX attitude…. She did disappoint during the middle of the season but I figure being smart she laid low. She came through with the dragon and Henry.

I like REGINA since the actress is so good… I do not think she is right I just can not stop following her.
