ParticipantAntBee, Out of the Jefferson/August possibilities, at least Jefferson had reason. The audience could at least see why he was driven mad and why he acts out of desperation. Maybe, if he dated Emma, she could get him to stop MAKING DEALS WITH REGINA THAT ARE GOING TO SLAP HIM IN THE FACE.
If there was a focus on August returning to check on his father, I could possibly like him more. Could he have checked up on Emma at some point? Nope, he returns because he is in pain (Never got over him telling Henry that he’s throwing in the towel because he’s dying, instead of this motivating him to be a hero..) He is a character depicting human failings: lying, selfish, pleasure-seeker so maybe I’m being too hard on him?
I like that idea hjbau, of having a relationship just NOT work with no one being villainized or a victim. That’s just what happens sometimes.

ParticipantReally thought Rumple and the Blue Fairy had their memories for most of the first season: knowing now that they didn’t leaves so many questions…How did he manage to track baby-Henry in Phoenix? Why a baby states away when there had to have been available babies in New England? Who brought him to Maine if Rumple couldn’t leave?
I assumed, when I thought he remembered all along, that Rumple had PIs tracking Emma and sending him info. for 28 years: so he knew about Henry and where she was.
I think I read somewhere that we’ll be seeing more of Emma’s past next season, so maybe some of these questions could be answered..Intrigued: what’s the alternative???

My thoughts exactly. It had always bothered me, too.
It doesn’t make any sense to me either that they wanted to lock him up, except perhaps that after Regina threatened them during their wedding, they were nervous and scared and wanted to put Rumple away to prevent him from helping Regina with her curse. I don’t know.Emma has never really had any friends besides Snow, and they’re going to have adjust to being mother and daughter, not to mention everything else on her plate, so I’m not sure how likely a friendship, at least this season, is between her and Belle either since she’s probably still pissed off at Rumple for running off with the potion while Henry was dying.
For some reason I can’t imagine Emma being friends with Belle. I think she might treat her well, but I don’t think they’d be friends. For some reason I can picture Belle being friends with Snow instead… eventually and perhaps thanks to Grumpy.
I want her and Henry to end up becoming friends too, and Henry finding out about Bae, especially if Bae is his dad, through his friendship with Belle. I’m not sure how likely the possibility now, but maybe they’ll end up bonding over his book or something.
I’d LOVE that. The image of Belle and Henry being friends is sweet and tender and it seems to me Mr. Gold has always had some kind of sympathy for the little guy. So yeah, I can see that happening and I think it’d be good for Belle.
Now I think Mr. Gold will want to make sure Belle has a comfortable life, after spending only God knows how many years in prison. Not only the 28 SB years but the previous ones in FTL.
I was thinking the other day, after she left the Dark Castle, all the Snow/Charming story was yet to happen, right? And then came the Royal Wedding, then Rumple made the deal with Cinderella, after that he was put away and Snow’s pregnancy came along… so I was thinking that about 3-5 years happened between Belle leaving the Dark Castle and the curse taking place. So I was considering that must’ve been the time she was locked up in Regina’s dungeons or whatever. Maybe I’m not doing my math in the right way… what do you guys think?
I think now Mr. Gold/Rumple really want to make it up to her, for all those years of loneliness, pain and fear. Considering that right now Belle pretty much has nothing but the clothes she has on (stolen jacket even).
I think it’s so sweet to see how gentle he is with her in the season’s finale. The way he holds her face after he tells her he loves her, the tone of his voice. And… maybe it’s just me, but in that scene when he says: “There’ll be time for that… there’ll be time for everything, but first…” He makes a pause and the way he looks at her, it’s almost as if he wanted to kiss her right there. His eyes seem to go from her eyes to her lips and back to her eyes before he finishes with his: “There’s something I must do”.

Does Rumpel even need to worry being an outcast? He’s the freaking Dark One. I don’t think he really cares. 😆 He’s never shown any concern for being accepted or liked. So, I don’t think Emma and the Charmings avoiding him is going to hurt his feelings. Their relationship will probably revert back to what it was in Fairytale land. They hate Rumpel, and yet, they allow themselves to get tricked by him constantly. I’m just hoping they don’t do what Snow did in “Heart of Darkness.” Snow knew that Rumpel was bad news, and yet she asked for his help anyway. I kind of see that same naivity remaining in tact, unfortunately.
Good point about how they hate him, yet they’re all willing to make deals with him all the time. I hope the “good guys”, specifically the Charmings, realize that at one point that either they have to stop running to him for everything when they don’t want to get their hands dirty doing it themselves if they think he’s such a bad guy, or they’re going to have to acknowledge that yes, he’s done some pretty bad things, but realize how much he’s helped them out at times. Not that he didn’t have his own motives for helping them, but still that irritates me that even when he wasn’t involved in trying to make the “good guys” go to him, they still do, then he helps them, and then they treat him like dirt afterwards when no one forced them to go to him for help.
Oh well, maybe they’ll explain more about what happened between “The Price of Gold” and “A Land Without Magic” because maybe his behavior did become even worse and that’s why they felt they had to lock him up, because otherwise it didn’t really make any sense since Rumple helped bring Snowing together in the first place.
Judging by the new spoilers provided by Emilie herself, I don’t think maing friends is going to be Belle’ main concern. She said that Belle would be a bit darker next season, thus possibly making her a little more sympathetic to Rumpel’s cause. So, I don’t think Belle will even want to make friends with the rest. The experience of being locked in a mental asylum and being in love with Dark One will make her much darker and a little more mature than her former Fairytale self.
Yes, while it would be nice to see Emma, Snow, Belle, and Red all be friends with each other, it might not happen that way because Snow and Red might be weary of making friends with Belle at first because of her association with Rumple. It would probably be hard for them to tell her anything in confidence without thinking that she might tell Rumple something about what they said until they learn to trust her. So maybe by the end of the season, they’ll be friends especially if they have to join together to fight an outside force like Regina.
Emma has never really had any friends besides Snow, and they’re going to have adjust to being mother and daughter, not to mention everything else on her plate, so I’m not sure how likely a friendship, at least this season, is between her and Belle either since she’s probably still pissed off at Rumple for running off with the potion while Henry was dying.
Oh I just remembered that her and Grumpy knew each other in the Enchanted Forest, so he’ll probably hang out together again, and perhaps he’ll help get the other “good guys” to trust her. That seems likely, although, because of the Bae mystery and her being one of the few people that knows about Rumple’s son, I want her and Henry to end up becoming friends too, and Henry finding out about Bae, especially if Bae is his dad, through his friendship with Belle. I’m not sure how likely the possibility now, but maybe they’ll end up bonding over his book or something.

ParticipantI remember watching the live tweets from Comic Con mentioning Herbie when people were listing the new stories that were hinted at. Thought I remembered Emma’s bug being in one of the season one openings though, so I figured that’s what people were seeing in the montage and they just got confused. If the bug shot is now mysteriously missing in the version that ended up online, perhaps they edited it before making it public, so halt that Herbie confusion?

True, Rumple doesn’t care what people think of him but he does care about Belle. In Skin Deep, when Regina told Rumple Belle was dead, she made a point of telling him how Belle was shunned and how everything that happened to Belle was because of her association with him. He believed that to be true and although he now knows Regina was lying, he’s not just going to forget all about it especially if similar things start to occur such as Belle being shunned by the rest of the town because of her association with him.

Magic is making people disappear from SB – maybe even Emma and MM (who we know go missing in episode 2)!"That’s how you know you’ve really got a home. When you leave it, there’s this feeling that you can’t shake. You just miss it." Neal Cassidy

They hated Gold for greedily overcharging their rent and controlling basically everyone’s buildings or businesses. I think they knew they’d either be out on the streets or he might arrange “accidental fires” if they didn’t pay up. Without knowing his fairy tale identity, they still feared him more than Regina.
When they find out he’s Rumpelstiltskin, what Charming called “the most dangerous man in the realms” and a “scourge” on the kingdoms (keep in mind the sword fight in the infinite forest with Rumpel being a fan of true love, precedes the wedding, and Charming personally helping arrange for the guy to be locked up), they should probably hate him even more.
I could see Belle being a go-between but I don’t think that would do her any favors or help her to fit in. The more I think about her doing that the more I think of her as a Sidney Glass. He was madly in love Regina, would do anything for her and at times did try to tell people that she wasn’t that bad. The guy didn’t seem to have many friends. They just tolerated him to keep off Regina’s bad side and otherwise felt sorry for him. Once Emma finally knew how bad Regina was, Sidney Glass’s love for her downright disgusted Emma.
If people know she’s aligned with Rumpel, I see Belle with a lot more pity than friendship.

And I think using Sidney Glass as a comparison is a bit overkill. Sidney Glass was a lovesick puppy who Regina toyed with and never truly loved. Rumpel and Belle, however, have been proven to be true love. So, the sacrifices they make for each other have a little more meaning. Sidney’s sacrifices were all based on the lie that Regina loved him. It’s not the same thing.
